COCKRILL VICTORIOUS Earns Another Purse in Feature at Exposition Park Return of Good Weather Results Resultsin in Increased Attendance Track Improves AURORA 111 May 21 The Rogers Park Purse a claiming race over one mile and seventy yards was the main attraction on this afternoons program at Aurora It was won by Cockrill and made it two in a row for that animal which races in the colors of the Jones Stock Farm Leyland an out sfder finished in second place while Alto was third Seven horses started startedCockrill Cockrill was the favorite and came from the rear to score his victory He was in close quarters after the start when Seths Ballot ridden by jockey Dupuy an appren ¬ tice cut over sharply going to the turn Following the others around the first turn Cockrill improved his position gradually and was in a contending position when half the distance had been traversed Seths Ballot was setting the pace When the stretch was reached Alto which had been racing well went to the front and opened up a two lengths lead but jockey Mulrooney went to work on Cockrill in the final eighth and the gelding finished gamely to overtake Alto and win by two lengths Leyland coming fast also disposed of the tiring Alto AltoFAVORITES FAVORITES DISAPPOINT DISAPPOINTThe The track while much improved over that of yesterday could scarcely be called fast It was lumpy in many spots and horses were unable to show their best speed A re ¬ turn of summerlike weather brought out a big weekday crowd but it was a rather dis ¬ astrous day for favorite player the choices failing to win with any degree of regularity regularityRoodles Roodles after a few ordinary races came to life this afternoon and won the opening race at a long price The gelding was much the best today and came from last place to race on the outside in the stretch and get up in time to win His price was 6174 one of the longest of the meeting The finish was very close with the winner Privately and Seths Companion finishing noses apart Katherine W which was supposed to be a good thing and was backed into favoritism failed to get any part of the purse while Watch On quit in the last furlong Jockey Keiser was on the winner winnerSandy Sandy Hatch with Leyland in the saddle romped home in advance of eight other sprinters in the second race Vicksburg was second and Kit Carson finished third The winner was never far from the leaders and assuming a good lead in the stretch passed the finish line a length in advance of his opponents Both Vicksburg and Kit Carson met with interference during the race or would have given the winner more of an argument Peter Ruff one of the big ¬ gest disappointments of the meeting started in this race and had his usual quota of backers but after getting to the front quit in the stretch stretch3IISS 3IISS RA3ISET SCORES SCORESMiss Miss Ramsey ridden by jockey Moran blasted the hopes of the many supporters of Shift in the third Shift was a prohibitive favorite but Miss Ramsey which on her last appearance refused to leave the barrier began well this afternoon and set a good pace to lead all the way and win easily Shift was not good enough to catch the winner but was an easy second and Easter was third The horses were fractious at the barrier and Shady Rest ran away a half mile before the race raceEight Eight stayers started in the fifth race which was the longest of the day being over the one mile and threesixteenths dis ¬ tance NaniHawaii was the winner scor ¬ ing by two lengths after leading all the way Tangram and Tom Byrne finished fast to be second and third respectively Mul ¬ rooney on the winner rated his mount along and reserved a burst of speed for the finish It was the third victory of the meeting for NaniHawaii and the second of the afternoon for jockey Mulrooney MulrooneyKamuela Kamuela made a runaway affair of the sixth race Ridden by Ayraud he led all the way to win by many lengths Salta an outsider finished in second place and Hazel Denson was third Gold Handle came in for much play in the event but showed a poor effort and was never a factor factorSchooling Schooling began at Washington Park this morning and although the track was heavy three horses broke away from the Bahr gate AVith the return of a fast track which is expected tomorrow it is likely that many horses will be schooled schooledTomorrow Tomorrow is Peoria Day at Aurora and a large delegation headed by the mayor of that city will be on hand to witness the races racesJ J Chrisman owner of a small string here is in the hospital as the result of a recent automobile accident
