Newmarket Stakes to Wm Woodward Horse Special Cablegram CablegramNEWMARKET NEWMARKET England May 21 The Scout II a threeyearold bay colt by Sir Gallahad III La Rablee owned by William Woodward the American sportsman won the Newmarket Stakes one mile and a quarter here today Like Gallant Fox which won the Kentucky Derby last Saturday at Louisville The Scout II was bred at Belair Stud in Maryland He was not raced as a twoyear old oldThe The Scout II with R Dick up defeated the Aga Khans Ut Majeur by half a length A R Cox Sea Rover was third four lengths farther back There were seven starters The Scout II was 10 to 1 Ut Majeur was 100 to 30 and Sea Rover was 13 to 2 Lord Astors Writ was the favorite at 2 to 1 1The The Newmarket is virtually a distance trial for the Derby which will be run this season on June 4 All the starters carried the full Derby weight 126 pounds The Scout II is a candidate for the Derby and in consequence of his victory today he is now attracting considerable attention Before the race Writ was 25 to 1 Ut Majeur 33 to 1 and Sea Rover 50 to 1 in the future betting on the Derby
