FAIRMOUNT DERBY WORKS Sydney Shows Brilliant Speed in One Mile Gallop 1 Camden Representative Timed in 141 for forRoute Route Gallant Knight Works WorksSame Same Distance COLLINSVILLE 111 May 22 J N Cam dens Sydney under the direction of Howard Stearns turned in a sensational workout this morning when the unsexed son of Craig angower was sent one mile his final work for the 15000 Fairmount Derby which will be decided here Saturday May 24 It was the manner in which the former United States senators representative did his work that made it an outstanding workout of the probable starters in the big race and won the admiration of many that witnessed the trial trialWith With jockey C E Allen up and under 118 pounds which is his Derby assignment Syd ¬ ney displayed fine speed when he negotiated the first threeeighths in 34 the half in 47 threequarters in 112 and completed tho one mile in 141 with trainer Stearns signalling him to slow down downKay Kay Spence who relieved trainer J J Terry OMalley was on the scene to super ¬ vise the final work of the Audley Farms Gallant Knight which ran one mile in 1 42 and so great was his desire to go at full speed that jockey H Schutte had difficulty in keeping the brown colt within the pace de ¬ sired by trainer Spence Gallant Knights trial although not a fast one was impressive as he went along at an even rate of speed under the clever rating of his rider The fractional time was 50 and 117 117J J L Best Memphis owner was on hand to witness the trial of his Reveille Boy which ranked with the best threeyearolds at New Orleans during the past winter where he participated in the important threeyear old fixtures The bay son of Last Reveille and Little Ann was sent the Derby route of one mile and a quarter accompanied by the Meadowbrook Stables Good and Hot for one mile and an eighth Jockey M Rose had the mount on Reveille Boy and started him out of the mile and a quarter chute Good and Hot joining him at the eighth post They completed the first quarter in 25 the half in 505 threequarters in 114 mile in 141 Continued on twentysecond page FAIRIOUNT DERBY WORKS Continued from first page mile ana oneeighth in 156 and galloped out the mile and onequarter in 213 with Reveille Boy having a slight advantage over his opponent which negotiated his mile and oneeighth in 157 While Good and Hot is not considered among the popular choices for the big race his work was done in a satisfactory manner and stimulated the hopes of trainer L F Cotner who was reluctant to start his charge After the good showing of the colt Cotner has decided to try for the prize prizeLouis Louis Hughes who brought Ned O here from Louisville and has directed his training during the absence of G W Foreman sent the son of Campfire out for a slow gallop which will serve to keep him on edge fpr Saturdays engagement An interview with jockey J D Mooney who rode him to third place in the Kentucky Derby revealed a mishap that retarded Ned O from being a more serious contender in the Churchill Downs race Mooney said the colt tore one of his shoes loose during the stretch run when he was going fast and while he didnt think he could have beaten the winner Mooney said he would have probably been second secondWizardry Wizardry Skibo Judge Dixon and By Product lesser lights among the derby eligiblcs were on the track but nothing bor ¬ dering on the nature of fast work was given the candidates By Product had the most strenuous work of the quartette when trainer J G Demarest sent her one mile and one eighth in 201 Reichert Brothers Wizardry went three furlongs in 39Ms while the Weque Stables Skibo traversed threequar ¬ ters in 118 Frankie Seremba was satis field that Judge Dixon is ready for his best effort and sent him out for a hard gallop of one mile
