SNOWFLAKE WINSOAKS Daughter of Mad Hatter Adds 19600 to Her Earnings Valuable Filly Race Renewed for forFourteenth Fourteenth Time at Belmont BelmontPark Park Red Rag Second NEW YORK N T June 4 Walter J Salmons Snowflake the sturdy daughter of Mad Hatter and Snowdrop in a game race was winner of the Coaching Club American Oaks at Belmont Park today It was the big race of the day and carried a value of 19600 to the winner Red Rag racing for A L Alexandre took second place with the Wheatley Stables Erin beating a stable mate Flying Gal for third Nine started over the gruelling mile and three furlongs and Schaefer who rode the winner used excellent judgment in avoiding the early pace and making his winning rush in the final quarter It was another delightful day for the sport and the summerlike weather brought out a big crowd crowdLittle Little time was lost at the post for the Coaching Club American Oaks and the start was a good one with Erin and Flying Gal soon to go into command while Nicotine a third that had been saddled by Fitzsim mons was also leading the others and Be ¬ lieve Sally the Bradley filly was in fourth place and running along next to the inner rail while Dustemall Snowflake and Con ¬ clave were in the rear rearErin Erin was going easily in front as she gal ¬ loped down the back stretch and Sande had Flying Gal under restraint back of her but it amounted to a stablemate carrying the burden of the pace when none of the others made an attempt to catch the leading pair Believe Sally did not hold her for ward position long and at the same time Red Rag was moving up steadily while Nico ¬ tine was dropping back slightly slightlyRED RED RAG CHALLENGES CHALLENGESHeading Heading for the stretch turn Flying Gal moved up to Erin and then on past to take the lead but as she moved up Garner shook up Red Rag and the daughter of Pen ¬ nant was close after the Fitzsimmons pair and racing outside Flying Gal felt the sting of the whip as Red Rag challenged and Erin was under a drive taking the punishment with more gameness than the daughter of Sir Gallahad III IIIIn In the meantime Schaefer had been steadily moving up with Snowflake and a furlong out she was gaining with a courage that already made her appear the winner Red Rag fought along gamely through that last furlong but the daughter of Mad Hatter would not be denied and in the final strides she was on past to be the winner by threequarters of a length Erin had tired until she was four lengths further back but she had out ¬ stayed Flying Gal to beat her by two lengths for third thirdThe The others were in close order without at any time playing an important part in the race Dustemall and Believe Sally were at the tail end of the nine It had been the intention of Fitzsimmons to start Flying Gal with Gallant Fox in the Belmont Stakes should her race in the Oaks be to his liking but after the manner in which she quit in the stretch it is a question if she will be started startedTwentyeight Twentyeight juveniles raced in the open ¬ ing four and a half furlongs dash which was under claiming conditions H Teller Archi ¬ balds Jolly King was the winner over W R Coes Soarer Abe Hallows Regina H saved third thirdGreen Green Light showed the way in the early stages but she weakened badly in the last furlong where Soarer made a move that put her in command In the meantiihe Jolly King had been making up ground rapidly on the outside and Regina H was also going well in a forward position In the last seventy yards Jolly King drew out to win by a length and a half while Soarer was doing her best to save the place The others trailed along rather badly strung out with Madelon last of the lot lotGAME GAME RIDING EXHIBITION EXHIBITIONThe The steeplechase of the day was under sell ¬ ing conditions and it saw a game exhibition of racing when E Christian on George Wil ¬ ling Jrs Infant rode practically all the way without his stirrups to finish a close third to Road Agent ridden by his owner G H Pete Bostwiek and the Greentree Stables Bold Knight Christian lost his stirrup before the second fence was reached and the race run by Infant under that serious handicap was all that prevented victory instead of his finishing third Volunteer was the one to set the pace from the drop of the flag but Mr Bostwick was not far back with Road Agent and when the front field Liverpool was reached he took command to lead for the remainder of the journey At that same front field Liverpool Veitch narrowly missed being unseated when his mount made a bad landing landingBold Bold Knight was permitted to settle nicely into his stride in the first half mile and then McGovern made a move with him on the lower end of the source that carried him into second place while Infant at that time was far back but he was racing well under his handicap when Christian was utterly unable to give him any help at the jumps He moved up on the outside and racing past the others was in the contention at the upper end of the field fieldMr Mr Bostwick rode a good race through the front field to hold Road Agent together nicely arid at the last jump he was a bare length before Bold Knight and Infant followed the Greentree jumper At the end under a vigorous ride Road Agent was winner by a length and Bold Knight had beaten Infant by a length and a half with Thomas Payne fourth fourthLimbus Limbus from the Rancocas Stable showing a startling form reversal was winner of the Sun Briar Handicap leading home Samuel Ross Grey Coat while Rapid Transit bearing the silks of the Kilrane Stable led Sun Edwin past the finish In a previous start Limbus was utterly devoid of speed and ran a dull race in lesser company Today he went right to the front at the rise of the barrier and made a show of his opponents There was no time that his lead was threat ¬ ened and he was still enjoying an advantage of two lengths at the end Grey Coat after beating the others away at once dropped back but when in full stride gradually made up ground and in the last furlong was gaining fast to take second place Rapid Transit ran second to the final strides He was under early restraint as he followed Limbus but failed to respond in the stretch drive and was quitting at the end endSun Sun Edwin was off well but could never improve his position and was hard ridden Glossin one that was respected before post time was without an excuse He raced closer to the leaders than has been usual in his races but did not develop the stretch rush that has marked his good performances
