CLOSE FINISH IN FEATURE Michael Monahan Wins by Head in Hotel Cleveland Purse Miss Peggy Comes Buck to Beat Wingo and andSctlis Sctlis Companion In Third Itace Itacent nt Thistle Down Park CLEVELAND Ohio Juno 4 In a driving finish and by the narrow margin of a head J Lees Michael Monahan annexed the Hotel Cleveland Purse fifth and principal number at Thistle Down Park this afternoon Michael Monahan was fortunate in securing a clear passage on the inside of Nae Breeks and Vicksburg while rounding the far turn which enabled him to take command but he was hard pressed all through the stretch to stall off the resolutely finishing Shorty O OJockey Jockey R Simpson a green apprentice was substituted to replace jockey W Ellsworth on Shorty O the latter jockey having sus ¬ tained a broken shoulder blade and a couple of fractured ribs in a fall earlier in the afternoon Simpson raised up in his saddle a few feet from the finish having mistaken the finishing line but his error failed to alter the verdict as it was evident that Shorty O could not overhaul the winner Tangram came from the rear to get third in a drive from the fast finishing Pacheco Nae Breeks and Vicksburg early contenders retired after reaching the stretch stretchOnce Once more the racing was staged under most favorable conditions The weather was all that could be desired the track at its best and an excellent midweek day crowd wit ¬ nessed the sport Large and evenly matched fields paraded in all of the seven races and close finishes featured the racing racingA A real speed marvel made her local debut in the opening race in Just Believe She led by a big margin throughout and drew away in the stretch to score with ridiculous ease Mint Hussy always held a safe margin over the others and Black Lula came from behind in the stretch to beat the others home for third Mavro broke part of his equip ¬ ment while at the post causing a long de ¬ lay and fell shortly after the start The mis ¬ hap ruined the chances of The Fives and Madam Florence FlorenceFull Full Speed wrested the lead from Nine Dollars while on the stretch turn in the second race and thereafter retained a com ¬ fortable margin over her opponents Nine Dollars was best of the remainder and Golden Tinted raced up into third place in the stretch test Mote was a factor until reaching the turn for home then tired under his impost impostFinishing Finishing with a brilliant rush on the out ¬ side in the stretch Wentz got up to head Igor in the last few yards of the third race after the latter had forged to the front inside the final furlong post Kitty Cat after following the pace of Red Grange to the stretch retained the minor portion of the purse Kitty Cat delayed the start of the race when she unseated her rider en route to the post and wandered through the stable yards She did not appear to suffer from her experience experienceTaking Taking command at once Miss Peggy car ¬ ried the Jones Keating colors to victory in the fourth race She never relinquished the lead but was under keen pressure all through the stretch to withstand the determined bid of Wingo which raced prominently in sec ¬ ond place throughout Seths Companion was much the best of the balance but could never get to the leaders leadersMavro Mavro fell with jockey W Ellsworth shortly after the start of the initial race Ellsworth received a severe shaking up and cancelled his remaining engagements
