MASTER HALLIGANS SECOND Repeats Recent Victory in Fifth Race at Fairmount Park Fig Leaf Falls Favorite Players In Purse PurseRained Rained for Waterworks Association Western Princess Wins Again COLLINSVILLE 111 June 4 Master Hal ligan the Master Charlie colt owned by J G Demarest came through with another victory his second straight this afternoon when he won the fifth race at fiveeighths of a mile contested by twoyearolds twoyearoldsToo Too Much Talk in his second appearance for the Black Dot Stable was second and Shasta Lover earned third place for the Brown Shasta estate estateRagabald Ragabald under the colors of E E Major opened the program with an easy victory when he proved much the best of the eight others that opposed him over threequarters Gideon raced to second place with Kind Words third thirdApprentice Apprentice Buddy Hanford had the winner away well and held him in front after going the opening quarter and once there never encountered much opposition outside of a mild challenge by Gideon The latter moved up on the turn but when Hanford urged the Major representative he drew away in handy fashion The first three had the race between them with little serious opposition from the others Clear Moon came in for much sup ¬ port but failed to race to expectations and was always far back Another band of ordinary sprinters com ¬ peted in the threequarters second race Nellie Ballot won after a brief stretch duel with Chris Paschen getting second place and Ruth Long third thirdThe The winner had to per form in good fashion as the two that shared in the money put up stubborn opposition Apprentice W Day came in for good applause for his clever exhibition Chris Paschen worked his way to the leaders after going a half mile but he found the winner was not to be denied Ruth Long began a trifle tardily and did not find her best stride until going a quarter but gained rapidly thereafter and was up in time for third place a length and a half in advance of Woodfire which was well played playedWestern Western Princess Scored her third consec ¬ utive victory of the meeting this time under the colors of the Blue Star Stable which ac ¬ quired her via the claiming route in her previous start Purple Robe showed vast improvement to get second place while Charming Lady had no difficulty getting third from Jeanne Adele AdeleJockey Jockey Joe Cavens had the mount on the winner and his vigorous ride played a prom inent part in the victory of the consistent daughter of Westy Hogan but she failed to display her usual early speed and was badly outrun to the final quarter From there to the end she easily outpaced the others and got up to get the decision by a length Purple Robe which was tiring badly held on to get second place a head in front of Charming Lady the favorite favoriteSome Some of the better grade distant perform ers were among the starters in the American Water Works Association Purse the fourth race and Mrs A B Stelles Jack Grain proved much the best The Missouri Stables Bozo furnished the most contention and fin ished second with Selection outgaming Ossie H for third money Fig Leaf was the favorite one in this but failed dismally in her effort to keep pace with the more successful ones and at no time did she give evidence of being a serious contender Bozo set the pace for the open ing threequarters but when Jack Grain chal ¬ lenged he gave way and was no match for the winner though he Jhad a five length margin over Selection for the place The latter began rather sluggishly and was far out of it during the early running and as usual made a belated bid but the two leaders had too much of an advantage advantageEd Ed McCuan claimed Fig Leaf out of the fourth race for 2250
