BELMONTS FINAL DAY Maturity Stakes Feature of Au Revoir Program Jack High and Frisius Are Only OnlyStarters Starters Widener Star Wins Aqueduct Meeting Next NEW YORK N Y June 10 Right up to the end of the Belmont Park meeting the inclement weather continued and during the last day at the beautiful course rain fell most of the afternoon and the track was at its worst This naturaily kept down the attendance but it was a surprisingly large crowd that bid farewell for the time being to the greatest of American courses coursesThe The feature of the final day the Maturity Stakes one mile and a quarter exclusively for fouryearolds only saw two under silks by reason of the track conditions and this fell to George D Wideners Jack High which has never shown a liking for such going Frisius from William Woodwards Belair Stud Stable was the only one to oppose him himMcAtee McAtee rated Jack High along in front from the rise of the barrier but Frisius raced close to him all the way and at the end was well lapped on the son of John P Grier GrierWith With the close of the Belmont Park meet ¬ ing the New York sport shifts over to the old Aqueduct course of the Queens County Jockey Club ClubFiveeighths Fiveeighths for juveniles under claiming conditions was the opening race and it re ¬ sulted in an easy victory for H Teller Archi ¬ balds Jolly King when he galloped home before W R Coes Soarer with George D Wideners Francock saving third from Rock Reef Rock Reef jumped into a good lead in the early running but Jolly King was in the front division and Thurber did not call on him until the last eighth when he came away with little effort showing a decided liking for the deep going Rock Reef stopped so badly that both Soarer and Francock ran him down easily Porterdi after leaving the post rather slowly finished fifth fifthIt It was a cheap band of platers that started in the second race The start in this was Continued on twentyfourth page BELMONTS FINAL DAY Continued from first pase straggling and it had much to do with the result when Sixty was left and Bird of Pray after being virtually left closed an immense gap to finish third to W M Mpores Fatigue which got away fast and Mrs David Gideons Daly DalyRobertson Robertson lost no time in going into a good lead with Fatigue and it was Dim Ray that went along in second place with Paradise Lost third and Daly not far back Of these Dim Ray was first to show signs of tiring and before the stretch was reached he had dropped back badly Robertson kept Fatigue hard at it and saving ground all the way he still had a couple of lengths to spare at the end endDaly Daly had saved ground turning into the stretch but was doing his best and he was only second by a head before the fast finish ¬ ing Bird of Prey and Sea Bright was another head back With equal luck at the start Bird of Prey would have won wonThere There was a double for the H Teller Archi ¬ bald silks when in a desperate finish Folk ing just dropped his nose down in front in the Tournament Handicap over the seven fur ¬ longs distance In this it was W E Caskeys Phillip that gave the winner a stern battle and six lengths back of them came Simba from the Rancocas Stable StableThe The start was so bad that Folking had to be pounds the best to be winner Simba was away fast and Phillip was after him with Gay Past third Eddie Ahearn fourth and Folking fairly out of the running Phillip showing fine speed in the going quickly raced past Simba and went on to a lead of three lengths Fator was rating Simba back of him and until well out of the back stretch Folking was last Then Kurtsinger moved up with the son of Negofol and racing on the inside gradually made up ground groundInside Inside the final furlong Folking had raced into second place but it had cost a big effort and as he drew alongside Phillip the Cas key colt drew away again slightly From there home it was a bitter struggle but it was Folking that had the winning margin in his favor favorThe The fifth was a five furlongs race for juveniles and it fell to Knowlton racing for the Pamapo Stable when he led home Blind Lane from the Goodstone Stable with Mrs K E Hitts Prince Peter saving third from Transmew In this Knowlton proved himself a mudder of parts when he raced into the lead at the rise of the barrier Blind Lane was second most of the journey and did not seem to have any good excuse In the final furlong he gained some ground but when Eaby roused the son of Sir Barton with the whip he came away again to be winner by a length and a half The others followed along in strungout order orderT T W Murphy shipped to Chicago to be turned over to E Haughton who trains the western division of the Greentree Stable the horses Rave Justinian Romany Baw Red Russia Blue Law and John Mill
