SECOND FOR SUN SWEEPER Pierce Racer Wins Again This Time on Muddy Track Saratoga Ufaje Deals Out Favorite Alans AlansDay Day In Feature Ever HFore Is IsAnother Another to Repeat OTTAWA Ont June 10 For the Tues ¬ day card of seven races offered by the Connaught Park Jockey Club for the fifth day of the meeting the Springtime Purse a test of six furlongs was the feature Eight smart sprinters furnished the conten ¬ tion with the result a surprise when Sun Sweeper of the M B Pierce barn was the winner capturing the major purse award from B L Squires Saratoga Maje Alans Bay of the E F Sanford stable was third The track was muddy muddyTJiis TJiis was the second consecutive triumph of this meeting for the Pierce gelding He quickly overtook the pacemakers Portsur and Alans Bay when approaching into the home stretch and once in command sped along at a good clip to finish the route under a mild drive winning by a length and one half halfOf Of the seven juveniles that started in the opening race Brimsey from the Jefferson Livingston barn graduated from the maiden ranks vhcn he led throughout in the slippery footing and was unextended at any stage The finish found him leading Lance Pennant from the Seagram Stable by a half dozen lengths while the latter in saving second was just a length and a half in advance of Captive which carried the silks of R Whitney into third place Frances Grey was an ex ¬ ceedingly close fourth and the others badly strung out outBrimsey Brimsey went to the post a wellbacked choice and he left no doubt as to his superi ¬ ority over those that opposed him Dashing away into a lead of eight lengths before approaching the turn for home the winner just romped along the stretch to finish with much in reserve Lance Pennant was under a drive to save second while Frances Grey just missed taking third when she came with a belated rush rushSix Six racers of cheap grade and of the maiden division furnished the contention for the mile and seventy yards of the third race The combination of Kai Lo and L Dubost turned up the winning pair The winner racing in the colors of J A Emmons led for the dura ¬ tion of the route and defeated Daddy Nelson from the W Elliott barn by five lengths Third was easily annexed by C Crooks Sweet Annette which held a wide margin over Frank Lake and the two others Daddy Nelson raced as if the best of these but his failure to get away with his company at the start probably caused his failure After trail ¬ ing the field by many lengths he gradually picked up his company but was unable to get to the leader which at one stage had a lead of a dozen lengths lengthsAfter After several failures Illumine from the A L Taylor establishment finally earned brackets when she led throughout in the second race to tabs the measure of L Glaus Twelve Sixty with third place going to Balsam Lake when she came with a rush to land that position by a scant margin over Sir Stanley from the W Walsh stable stableIllumine Illumine was making her fourth start of the meeting and despite the fact that she has been a contender in each instance she was slightly overlooked in the wagering Moving away into a slight lead in the early stages Illumine drew well clear of her oppo ¬ nents leaving the back stretch and although tiring fast during the final furlong managed to reach the end of the route with a half length to spare Twelve Sixty was four lengths clear of Balsam Lake which just retained a neck margin over Sir Stanley StanleyOf Of the six homebrcds that engaged for honors in the six furlongs of the fourth event Ever More bearing the silks of the Mount Royal Stable and coupled with Master Bobbie emerged victorious She led Troutlet from the R II New barn by a length with third going to Killing of the Seagram Sta ¬ ble Troutlet and Killing came in for most support and their failure to cope with the Mount Royal representatives was a sharp setback for the followers of these stables
