INSPECTION OF TOTALIZATOR LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 13.— Erwin Weide-kamp, who is in charge of the pari-mutuel department at the American turf tracks, returned to Churchill Downs today after a trip to England, where he made a thorough inspection of the totalizator in use on the tracks in that country. He is preparing a written detailed report for the inspection of Colonel M. J. Winn, president of the American Turf Association. There are several systems in use on the English courses, and, while similar in many respects, there is some difference in their operation. Mr. Weidekamp stated that the totalizator is in an experimental stage and that the inventors are busily engaged in improving their machines and that in a short while they have promised to produce a perfect instrument for the handling and recording of wagers on the races. It is Col. Winns intention to go to Europe this summer and make a personal investigation of the operation of the totalizator on all the different European tracks. He is anxious to secure a machine that will meet the expectations and the demands of the American racing public and is hopeful that success will crown the efforts of the inventors to produce a "foolproof" and absolutely accurate machine.
