PROBABLE OHIO DERBY FIELD Up, Boys Howdy, Spanish Play, Lightning Bolt and Insco Among Certain Starters. CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 21. — Up, winner of the Agua Caliente Derby, and a prominent candidate for the Ohio State Derby, to be run Saturday, was an arrival from Louisville this morning, and is scheduled to take a light workout Friday morning. The horse shipped well from Kentucky, and should the track turn heavy, he will be regarded as a strong contender. Melvin Knight will have the mount on Up. Spanish Play, Knebelkamp and Morris candidate, worked an impressive mile over the drying out track in 1:43%, with the Derby weight up Thursday morning. He was well in hand all the way, and George Land, trainer, announced himself as well pleased with the effort. Charley Landolt will ride Spanish Play in the Derby. Landolt has completely recovered from his recent illness. Secretary Reeder received word that Clarence Buxtons A La Carte left New York Thursday and would be on the scene Friday morning. Hold Hard, Dr. J. Fred Adams Derby hopeful, worked the full Derby distance Thursday in 2:02% handily. Hold Hard has rounded into his best form and should be a contender. Johnny M. Jones will have the mount. Lightning Bolt, from the Greentree Stable, arrived from Kentucky and immediately got into action. He was given a workout during the afternoon. Ed Haughton, his trainer, declared himself satisfied. He said J. Smith would ride Lightning Bolt in the big race. Blue Law was considered a probable starter in the race at the eleventh hour. N. Crofton, owners of Up; J. E. Madden, Jr., owner of The Mongol; C. H. Knebelkamp, owner of Spanish Play and J. R. Leslie, owner of Peach Basket.
