LATONIA DERBY ON JUNE 27 * Milldale Tracks Feature Race Scheduled for Opening Day. ♦ Dates Not Set for Remaining Stake Attractions— WiU Avoid Conflict With Washington Park Fixtures. ♦ LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 21.— While dates for renewals of four of the six rich stakes on the program for the Latonia summer meeting of thirty-one days, opening Saturday, June 27, have not been decided, the forty-ninth running of the 5,000 added Latonia Derby will be the stake feature of the inaugural days racing and the 0,000 added Independence Handicap is to be run on Saturday, July 4. Dates for the 0,000 added Clipsetta Stakes, 0,000 added Cincinnati Trophy, 0,000 added Latonia Oaks and 0,000 added Enquirer Handicap will be selected so as to avoid conflict with stakes of like character to be run at Arlington Park. Opening with the Latonia Derby, as in 1930, Latonia will offer first day patrons the most important racing of the meeting and the Derby, over one mile and a half, may attract Twenty Grand, Sweep All, Knights Call, Mate, Anchors Aweigh, Pittsburgher, Lord Swift, Don Leon, Insco, Spanish Play, Boys Howdy, Scotlands Glory, Vander Pool, Ladder, War and others for the largest and best field in many years. If Twenty Grand can account for the fixture the Kentucky Jockey Club will add an extra ,000 to the first money, a contingency in the conditions designed to attract the Kentucky Derby winner. During the seven years the extra ,000 has been offered, the Latonia management has not been required to add it, the nose decision against Clyde Van Dusen in favor of Buddy Basil in 1929, being the most prominent bid of a Kentucky Derby winner for the Latonia race during that time. No purse of less than ,200 will be offered during the thirty-one days and, judging from purse values and conditions for the overnight events during the first eight days, the quality horses catered to will in almost every instance race for purses of ,400 and ,500. Such of the outstanding older performers as Gallant Knight, Mike Hall, The Choctaw, Bargello, Lady Broadcast, The Nut, Playtime, Sun Beau, Pigeon Hole, Jimmy Moran and others, including the best of the western three-year olds are eligible for the Independence Handicap and the renewal of this fixture, over the mile and three-sixteenths, Continued on eighteenth page. Two-year-old fillies will have their opportunity in the Clipsetta Stakes, while the juvenile colts and geldings have the Cincinnati Trophy and the three-year-old fillies the Latonia Oaks.
