MUDDY TRACK FOR RE-OPENING Large Crowd Journeys to Agua Caliente Despite Track Conditions Threatening Weather. AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, Jan. 1. Jupiter Pluvius vented his wrath on the valley of Tijuana early today leaving in his wake a track deep in mud and clouds above that threatened to further dampen the re-opening program of seven races arranged by racing secretary Francis P. Dunne. At the usual time of scratching this morning the field of seven carded for the New Years Handicap was much reduced so that a conference was held among the owners who entered for this stake, and it was decided to postpone the running of the ,000 added mile and one-sixteenth event to a later date. The field was composed of J. A. Bests Reveille Boy, Seths Hope and Seths Pride, of the Parson barn; Marine, of the Mount Royal Stable ; Raoul Walshs McGonigle and Joe Toplitzkys Good and Hot. Despite the adverse weather conditions an exceptionally large crowd turned out to witness the sport. Today was termed reopening day for a run of seventy-six days, thus bringing the number of actual racing days to an even 100. The temporary suspension of racing, which went into effect on December 23, lasted for seven racing days. The original announcement was that there would be 107 afternoons of the sport. Along with the New Years Handicap, which was postponed, the eighth race on the overnight entries was declared off due to numerous scratches and the ninth race, which was used as a substitute, was run as the eighth. e
