I CjHUCK B. began clear but a trifle tardy, then closed steadily in the final eighth and was gaining on the winner in the final strides. BE SILENT, quickest to get going, was hard urged and outlasted HILDUR ROCK. Tho latter finished resolutely. IREDELL had no mishaps. BONNIE LILLIAN propped at the start, but moved up resolutely on the inside at the eighth post and, ridden timidly, was eased back in the last seventy yards. BIG LEAGUER raced green. PLAY FURIOUS, racing forwardly under vigorous urging in the early stages, finished gamely in the .stretch and outlasted CAPTAINS GIRL. The latter, closest to the leader and saving ground all the way, assumed a short; lead in the stretch when MORTIME quit, but could not withstand the challenge of the winner. MORTIME showed the most speed under light restraint in the early stages, but quit in the stretch. GAY PAL and. SIR. BARLEY, on the outside all the way, closed resolutely. FAIR BILLOWS, racing prominently under pressure throughout, held his position gamely. LAFTAR, on the outside from the start, responded resolutely in the final eighth and outlasted TANTALIZING. RIP VAN WINKLE, whipped going to the first turn, was then permitted to drop out of it on the back stretch and raced on his own courage thereafter. BAY ANGON tired after five-eighths. CABILDO moved up on the outside leaving the back stretch, then lost ground entering the stretch, but came again with a rush. TOP HATTIE was pinched back after the start, but could not get up. The latter, buffeted about on the first turn, moved up fast on the inside on the back stretch, was again blocked by CHANCELLOR, but came again on the outside and was closing on the winner at the end.
