CANCEL TWO STAKE RACES LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 1 Stake blanks for the four stakes to be run at Churchill Downs at the spring meeting, beginning April 30, and extending to May 21, were being mailed from the Churchill Downs office today. The nominations for the various stakes will close at midnight, February 3. The stakes include the Kentucky Derby, 0,000 added, and a gold trophy of ,000 value; the Clark Handicap, ,000 added, for three-year-olds and over; the Kentucky Oaks, for three-year-old fillies, ",000 added and the Bashford Manor Stakes, for two-year-old colts and fillies, ,000 added. It was deemed advisable by the management of Churchill Downs to eliminate the Grainger Memorial Stakes and the Debutante Stakes from the spring meeting.
