I AGUA CALIENTE NOTES : -3 Ed Heffner, noted New York trainer, was an arrival today. Frank Rinehart, former track superintendent at Agua Caliente, has taken over the training of Tonto Rock, an Agua Caliente Handicap eligible. The animal is owned by Fred Almy. H. W. Fry was an arrival from San Francisco with the useful plater Lagrange. Up to and including January 11, jockey Tracey Reno led the Agua Caliente riders " with thirty-six victories. S. Coucci was next in line with thirty, while J. Cochlin and Hank Mills, who has since departed for Florida, have ridden twenty-six. L. Knapp and R. Tremayne have ridden seventeen each. D. Dubois was leading the older riders with five victories. Sam Rothert, who served as racing secretary at Tanforan, is spending the winter in San Diego and is an occasional visitor at the track. Herman Conkling and Webb Everett, who have been visiting at Agua Caliente, left by motor for New Orleans. Adorable Cargo, winner of three races at the meeting, is reported in a- bad way from stomach trouble. The filly is in the barn of C. A. McCroan, who has lost two other; useful horses in the past few months. Up, good handicap horse in the stable of J. N. Crofton, is reported to be recovering nicely from a recent ailment and will be pointed for the Agua Caliente Handicap. Seguro and Vander Pool are the latest withdrawals from the Agua Caliente Handicap. The La Brea three-year-old went at Tanforan, while Vander Pool will not be shipped west. According to Zeeke Caress, future book prices on the Agua Caliente Handicap will not be completed for a couple of weeks. The track ringmaster wishes to get a line on Phar Lap before putting up the odds. Baron Longs Nacho, which struck himself in a mud race recently, is on the shelf teni porarily. He has been nominated for the Agua Caliente Handicap.
