- fFAIR GROUNDS TURF NOTES $ Following a conference with Col. J. P. Sullivan, managing director of the Louisiana Jockey Club, William Hamilton, starter, announced that all of his assistants would work in uniform apparel throughout the meeting. Hamilton and his aides took over the schooling of the two-year-olds and older horses Thursday and tested all of the Bradley-Stewart starting gates during the after-nooru Mr. and Mrs. W. S. McLean and Walter Barriger, of Chicago, were arrivals and will remain for much of the Fair Grounds season. Garrett Watts was an arrival from Lexington. Jockey Charles Corbett and his wife and daughter came in today from Miami. Corbett will ride free lance through the entire Fair Grounds meeting. Word received from Pilger, Neb., advised of the death of the father of jockey C. Nelson and the youngster cancelled his engagement Saturday. William H. Shelley is accepting nominations for the Churchill Downs stakes from horsemen here. The four stakes headed by the 0,000 added Kentucky Derby, to be run during the spring meeting, are closing February 3. The stables of O. Viau, Vic Gallo and H. McGarvey were transferred from Jefferson Park to the Fair Grounds Saturday. J. B. Theall moved his stable Sunday. Jack B. Campbell, steward of the Fair Grounds, came in Saturday morning from the East.
