DUPEE HAD RIGHT TO VOTE Francis Nelson Upholds Rulings in Which Former Agua Caliente Steward Had Hand. AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, Feb. 15. Judge Francis Nelson, senior steward at Agua Caliente, was quoted today in a local paper as making the following statement regarding the status of Walter H. Dupee, whose right to vote on the Baron Long ruling was questioned by many turfmen. "Walter H. Dupee was an active steward and had a right to vote. His work as steward had been accepted in the past and there is no reason why it should not have been accepted in this instance." On the other hand, president James N. Crofton, of the Agua Caliente Jockey Club, who engaged all officials, states that Mr. Dupee was designated as an honorary steward and that it was through a misunderstanding that Mr. Dupee considered himself a paid official. At the time of the Baron Long Ruling Mr. Crofton was in Mexico City on business. Those interested point out that they questioned the ruling in the Long case for the season that it happened to be outstanding. It applies in all other instances where Mr. Dupee voted. The question, however, seems to make little difference to Mr. Long, as he has definitely decided to retire from the turf and devote his time to his other extensive interests in California. It was said today that he had ordered his famous orange and jade colors destroyed recently.
