EVEN UP, very slow to start, improved his position in the final quarter and, wearing down the leaders in the stretch, won going away. DORNOCH drew away on the back stretch, was steadied in front and held on well to the final sixteenth, where he tired. WARD-IN-CHANCERY, hard urged throughout, closed resolutely in the stretch, but could not overtake the leaders. BLACK SIGNAL, closest to the leader in the early stages, quit when forced to a drive. LE BRUYERE, away forwardly and avoiding interference, was close to the leaders all the way and, responding gamely, was up to win in the last stride. MY COUNSELLOR, quickest to start, was under pressure all the way, then tired. FLYING DRAGON, in close quarters to the final sixteenth, responded gamely under punishment and outlasted WHITE THORN. The latter propped at the start and, taken around the others after entering the main track, closed a big gap. It was a rough race and not truly run. fiRRR THIRD RACE 3-4 Mile. ZEVAR moved up with a rush, saved ground on the turn and, steadied behind the leaders to the final sixteenth, went to the outside and wore down FOREIGN PLAY in the final stride. The latter, prominent throughout, took a short lead in the stretch, but could not withstand the challenge of the winner. LOVE OFFERING moved up resolutely entering" the stretch, disposed of MORDEN, but tired thereafter. ZEGORA moved into contention on the outside midway around the turn, but was carried wide. DUNRODE came through on the outside. COMMON was forced to pull up in the first eighth. MORDEN tired badly and swerved to the rail. GAILMONT tired after half a mile. Overweight Mittens, 3 pounds. GENIAL HOST, a factor throughout, tired in the stretch. BILL SOUTHAM, on the inside for three-quarters, moved up resolutely on the outside entering the stretch, only to tire under pressure. BLACKMOCK, slow to get going, closed gamely, under punishment. BAY ANGON tired after three-quarters after setting a good early pace. PLAYFOLE showed early speed. The others did not threaten.
