"fair grounds turf notes r : Immediately following the close of the Louisiana Jockey Club season, Charles McLennan, Fair Grounds placing judge, leaves for Chicago, where he will compile the nominations for numerous Arlington Park stakes closing March 15. After the important work is completed, McLennan goes to Bowie, where he is assistant racing secretary to his father, Joseph McLennan, who serves in a like capacity at Arlington Park. On Saturday, March 12, a delegation of officials of the Illinois Central Railroad and subsidiaries will be the guests of the Louisiana Jockey Club. On that day races will be named for the Illinois Central system and the Panama Limited. The principal event that day will be the New Orleans Handicap, among the outstanding races of the meeting, for three-year-olds and older horses. V. B. "Bill" Young today took over the book of Earl Pool and will make that rider3 engagements during the remainder of the meeting. Clifford Porter, who has raced a number of the Warm Stable and W. A. Hanger horse3 with much success, has been engaged to train the western division of the Warm Stable and a number of W. A. Hangers racers during the. coming season. For the former, Porter will campaign Our Grief, Flaunt, The Whig, War Tide and others now at Dunreath Farm in Kentucky, and Rusty, Shackelford and one or two others for W. A. Hanger. Porter ships from here to Lexington. Nominations for the ,000 added General Beauregard Claiming Stakes, for three-year-olds and over, to be run at a mile and one-eighth at the Fair Grounds Saturday, March 5, are closing Saturday. This is a new feature and is under the ,500 to ,000 scale. Racing secretary Joseph McLennan looks for it to bring together all the best of the second flight distance racers. Nominations are at 0 each, with 5 additional to start.
