BURNING BLAZE WESTERN HOPE Shandon Colts Career as a-Two- " Year-Old Brilliant. Has Numerous Victories to His Credit Over r Tick On Never Opposed Top Flight. 4 NEW ORLEANS, La., March 3. Before b leaving for Chicago this morning, Patrick A. Nash, who in partnership with his 3 brother, Richard J. Nash, maintains the extensive Shandon farm and racing stables, , had word from trainer John B. Partridge i to the effect that the stables crack Burning J Blaze, one of the choices for the Kentucky r Derby, Arlington Classic, American Derby, Preakness Stakes and other of the long array I of fixtures for three-year-olds, has been 1 going along splendidly in regular daily gallops since being transferred from the farm 1 to the Kentucky Association track at Lexington. Burning Blaze has been at the Lexington , race course for about two weeks and but P for a few weeks shortly after his arrival at Shandon Farm last fall, during which he I was almost inactive, was indulged with light exercise daily at his picturesque and spacious winter home. Along with Playaround, Minton, Roman Hill, Zean, Dandy Dan, Full Up, Allegretto and others, including seven two-year-olds, Burning Blaze will remain at the Kentucky Association track for some time. As a two-year-old, this brilliant son of Big , Blaze Mexican Tea, by Tea Caddy, which the Nash brothers purchased from the Gor-ham Brothers as a yearling for ,500, accounted for approximately 5,000 in purse 1 money and defeated all the best in his division with the lone exception of C. V. Whitneys great filly Top Flight, which he ; did not meet. He has a tremendous Kentucky Derby following, particularly in the West and in Maryland. In Maryland last fall he triumphed in the Eastern Shore Handicap, the big Havre de Grace feature, worth 5,650 and running the three-quarters under 120 pounds in 1:12, defeated Hygro, Sunmelus, Pom-peius, Pencader, Rabbit Skin, Tick On, Polonaise, Our Fancy, Wise Count, Step Liz, Frederick and Mexico. A short time before his Eastern Shore victory, he packed 130 pounds to victory over Tick On, Pairbypair, Hygro, Burgoo King, Rabbit Skin, Mexico, Continued on thirteenth page. He gave three pounds to Tick On and defeated the Mrs. L. G. Kauffman colt by a length and a half, running the three-quarters in 1:12. In his last Maryland appearance and final of the year in the Annapolis Handicap, at Pimlico, Burning Blaze was unplaced to Snapback, Stagecraft and Fall Apple and in the Spalding Lowe Jenkins Handicap at Laurel and at a mile, was third to Osculator and Tick On. In the Spalding Lowe Jenkins Handicap he carried 122 pounds, giv; -five pounds to Osculator and four t Tick On. Before successive winning efforts in the Richard Johnson Stakes and Extern Shoro Handicap, he won from Our Fancy, Capacity and. others of his age in a purse race at Havre de Grace. This was his first public showing in the old line state and running the five and one-half furlongs, under 122 pounds, in 1:06, he won a big following for the Eastern Shore. The Shandon colt mdde his bow in the Hyde Park Stakes at Arlington Park, on July 1, and meeting interference at the start, he was almost eliminated. In this Proteus was badly injured. Seventeen started arid Pairbypair was the winner. Later at the same track, Burning Blaze scored over Morfair, Liberty Limited, Phantom Legion, Osculator, Tick On, Pairbypair and others in the Post and Paddock Stakes, worth 9,400 and his richest victory. In the Hawthorne Juvenile Stakes at Hawthorne in August, he was unplaced to Hygro, Liberty Limited and Osculator and at Lincoln Fields in September, Hygro led him home in the Joliet Handicap. During the winter he took on 100 pound3 and filled out nicely. Barring mishap, his owners look for him to prove the leading "western candidate for three-year-old honors
