TWENTY IN MRS. HITFS STRING Trainer Tommy Roderick Planning to Move Charges to Pimlico About April 12. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., March 18. Mrs. Katherine Elkins Hitt, whose noted farm, Homewood, consisting of 1,200 acres, is located near Middleburg, Va., will campaign twenty horses during the thirteen-day spring meeting of the Harford Agricultural and Breeders Association, which opens here April 16. Trainer Tommy Roderick plans to move Mrs. Hitts thoroughbreds to Pimlico on April 12 and will van here on the day3 he has something to race. This plan will aid Roderick to prepare Mrs. Hitts clever steeplechaser, Icicle, for an early campaign, which would be impossible if he was forced to quarter here. However, Tommy has his charges well engaged in the stakes here and race fans can look for him to cut quite a swath during the approaching session. Sun Meadow, which prior to going lame last spring, was considered a real threat for the Preakness; Election Day, Anubis, Daiquiri and Briggeen are the older horses that Roderick is making ready for 1932 racing. The remainder of Mrs. Hitts stable is made up of two-year-olds. Names, for the majority of them have not been assigned by The Jockey Club of New York, but a few are available, which are herewith given: Citizenship, bay colt by The Porter Early Vote. He is a grand looking individual with great depth through the heart. He has cleanly shaped legs well set under him. Crumpley, by Ed Crump, from Moon Play, is an intelligent looking colt. His handsome head is set on a finely arched neck. He is a full brother to Play Alone. Day Nurse, a bay daughter of Ed Crump First Aid, is highly regarded by her trainer. She is a racy looking miss, being short coupled with large quarters. This gives her great driving power when in action. The filly by Lucullite, from Telina, is named Luce. She was bred at Rancocas Farm and purchased at the Spa yearling sales. She is a full sister to Scion, which raced with success under the Rancocas silks last spring. Rowes Crump, a chestnut daughter of Ed Crump and Rowes Gold, is a stoutly boned individual. She is well put together and not too heavily muscled. She is a half-sister to All Rowes. The daughter of The Porter and Rosy Dawn is a striking looking filly. She is gray In color, with great depth through the heart, fine shoulders and good girth. Stealaway, a bay colt by Ed Crump WhatU I Do, is a handsome fellow of good size and striking conformation. His dam was a speedy sprinter under the black and white Hitt silks a few years ago. Two chestnut fillies by Craigangower Oh Susan and Ed Crump Fireside Tales are named Shrew Mouse and Tell It Again, respectively. Following their campaign in this state, Mrs. Hitts horses will move to New York and later in June to Arlington Park, Illinois. They are due to return here to help the Harford Agricultural and Breeders Association usher in Marylands major fall racing season on September 21.
