GRACE BLOTTER showed good speed and, well ridden, withstood a bold challenge from STAR FAIRY entering the stretch and was slowly drawing clear. STAR FAIRY, hard urged to secure racing room after meeting early interference, raced on even terms with the winner, but was not good enough after swerving into GRACE BLOTTER at the last eighth post. ROYAL SEE saved ground and closed gamely. BLACK SHEEP, hard ridden throughout, raced well. SNOWDRIFT was unable to menace the leaders. NUTTING raced evenly. TREMENDOUS, GALA TIME and APPREHENSIVE were carried wide on the turn. INCEPTION, fencing in clever fashion and saved for the first mile, went to the leaders after the tenth fence and, taking command at the twelfth obstacle, was steadied along to outstay CITRON. The latter, saving ground at all of his fences, entered stiff contention in the final half mile, landed badly at the last fence, but recovered quickly and finished gamely. TOTALISATOR raced BEELZEBUB into defeat in the first mile, took a short lead, then held on resolutely. BEELZEBUB, rated along for the first mile, tired. HUON JOY was held safe throughout. ILLUSIVE, avoiding crowding leaving the back stretch, assumed command midway of the turn, continued resolutely when displaced at the final eighth post and, coming again, outlasted PEEVED. The later, hard urged, took a short lead in the stretch, but could not withstand the winner. GALLIC suffered early interference, came through entering the stretch and finished gamely. BORA showed a good performance. CHANGEABLE saved" ground. THE BLACK lost much ground in "the stretch. NORTH SHADOW was held safe. SKITTER was crowded back leaving the back stretch. He worked out a mile and unseated his rider when shying from a stray dog on the track. HAPPY SCOT, rated close up, came through next to the rail on the turn, took command, but was unable to withstand the winner. MICROPHONE raced PROTEUS into defeat and held on well. PROTEUS showed good speed for half a mile. BLACK JACKET had no excuses. LADDER tired. AVALON, rated in front, saved ground early and held on well when challenged. WILLIAM T., taken under early restraint, challenged resolutely in the final half, but was not good enough.
