PORTCODINE took the early lead and, racing as if much the best, was never overtaken, winning easily. LA SALLE saved much ground on the stretch turn and finished fast on the inside, but did not threaten the winner. RED CROSS SISTER dropped back after a quarter, but came again and overtook CHU CHU in the last stride. The latter tired. PORTERNESIA could not keep up. MAJOR LANPHIER was away poorly. SCIMITAR, a bad post actor, was started from outside the gate, was outrun for half the distance, then came fast on the outside, overtook the early leaders and held MAD CAREER safe under hard urging. MAD CAREER dropped back early, then took the lead on the far turn and held on well. DURVA raced gamely to the finish. SUNFIRE was shuffled back earlv, but closed a trap.
