Earns Another Purse. • CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 30.— J. B. Res-pess provided the winner of the ,500 Memorial Day Handicap feature of the Decoration Day program at Bainbridge Park this after- , noon in Our Fancy. Mrs. H. S. Harts Silver Q of Cord and Miss D. Hoffmans Dollar Princess divided the smaller portions of the purse, finishing in that order. The three-quarters was covered in 1:12% and the race was worth ,000 net to the winner. Silver Cord and Most Wise fought for the lead closely lapped until midway in the stretch, where Our Fancy challenged. Coming fast on the outside, jockey J. Haupt quickly secured command with the Respess representative and she drew away into an easy lead near the end. Silver Cord retained a safe lead over the remainder in the final stages. Although never far from the leaders, Dollar Princess barely saved third by a nose from the fast-finishing Nell Kuhl-man. Most Wise tired rapidly when the real drive came and the others were always outpaced. An immense holiday throng which over- taxed the accommodation of the plant, wit- . nessed the racing. The crowd was estimated _ at 12,000. Ideal conditions prevailed. The weather could not have been improved upon 1 and the track was at its best. An excellent J card was provided and the racing was spirited, featured by numerous thrilling stretch struggles. j Indicative added another purse to the Sagamore Stables earning when he led by a comfortable margin throughout in the fourth race. Incidentally jockey W. Nert-ney increased his total of winning mounts and is now the leading rider at the meeting. I Step Sis, a Maryland invader, retained second place from Justina after the latter had been forced to work her way up in close quarters on the inside in the early stages. Birthday Gift, the favorite, showed a disgraceful - effort, after his recent winning performance here, under a listless ride by f jockey G. Fowler. Racing for the first time in the colors of his new owner, P. T. Catalano, Al Green l won the second with ease. He was never r threatened at any stage. Modern Miss just saved second from the fast finishing Merry Queen, with Ada Wan a close fourth, finishing extremely fast after closing a tremendous gap. It was a rousing stretch struggle. x
