The latter raced fast through the stretch and was gaining on the winner near the end. LOVELY HILLS showed good early speed, but tired after engaging in a bumping match with SNORKY in the stretch. SNORKY dashed to the front soon after the start, but tired. LEE GOLD tired badly. MONKS DUDE raced green and was eased up after goine; a quarter. PROSE AND POETRY, well rated in the early stages, moved up fast near the stretch turn and, holding PATRICIA MARIAN safe in the stretch, won easily. PATRICIA MARIAN saved ground and, taking a short lead when MAD CAREER bore out, held on fairly well when challenged, but was not good enough. MAD CAREER took a short lead soon after the start, but lost his chance when he raced very wide on the far turn. NACHO saved ground and showed a good performance. JUSTINIAN was outrun all the way. PAUL BUNYAN closed a gap. DON LEON was in close quarters in the earlv stages and never threatened. SUNFIRE, away slowly, moved up fast on the back stretch, swung very wide on the stretch turn and. taken to the inside at mid-stretch, met interference, but was going well at the end and pulled up lame.
