TRAINERS BUSY AT LATONIA Speed Up Training Schedules — Work of Painting and Preparing Plant Going Forward. LATONIA, Ky., June 10.— Heavy clouds hung over the Latonia race track this morning and many trainers sped up training schedules on their charges. With no time to be lost with only two weeks remaining before the Latonia opening, the course was the scene of much activity. The track was in perfect condition. The work of W. E. Smiths Otherwise came in for the most discussion when the son of Wise Counsellor and Kitty Yansen went four furlongs in :48%, driving. The unbeaten colt, which is eligible for the Cincinnati Trophy, was accompanied by the stablemate, Onside, which completed the half-mile in :48%. Onside kept up with the colt to the stretch, where Otherwise drew away, after covering the quarter in :23. The colts came back in grand style and showed no ill effects from their work. Otherwise has worked good three-quarters since trainer Weaver brought him from Louisville and he was tried for speed this morning. Weaver called on Lonwin and Murphys Luck, which owner Smith named for the Clipsetta and the pair of eligibles for the opening day feature went three-quarters in 1:17%, driving. Lonwin showed the most speed, but Murphys Luck kept in close attendance throughout. Cheronap, an eligible to the Quickstep and Enquirer, went a handy mile in 1:46%.
