BAINBRIDGE PARK INAUGURAL TODAY Autumn Meeting of Sixteen Days Begins at Cleveland Track Under Most Favorable Auspices Plenty-Good Racing Material Available - CLEVELAND, Ohio, Aug. 23. A. well balanced card of seven races has been provided for the opening of the autumn meeting of sixteen days at Bainbridge Park tomorrow. The prospects for favorable racing conditions prevailing for the opening appear bright. The weather and track today could not be improved upon. Although the Fairmount Purse attracted a field of only six, the half dozen appear to be very evenly matched. Due. to his recent good form displayed at Thistle Down, Pan, from the Clous stable, is likely to be favorite. Inferno Lad has also been racing well and Claret, from the Luzader stable, is certain of haying a following. Hogans Dance 5 will be making her debut to local racing fans tomorrow in this event and this one come3 well recommended. First Mission was a winner at the Thistle Down meeting over moderate company. Purlie has yet to show her best form this year. James Bronnenbergs much improved Odd Star seems to have the call over the three-year-olds in the opening dash. The remaining five events have large fields, very evenly balanced and likely to cause the form players much trouble to forecast the probr able outcome. There are nearly 700 horses registered with racing secretary Leigh representing 190 owners and trainers and large " fields seem likely to prevail throughout the meeting. The majority of the horsemen represented are well known to local racing enthusiasts. An addition to the riding colony is jockey L. Fage, from Chicago, and his engagements will be made by Dan Hickey. Fage is known in this locality, having performed here last year when in the employ of the late Stuart Polk. Among the other riders registered today are Sylvester, Clemons, Dickson, Dovett, Dupuy, Klein and many others. Jockey J. Hernandez, who suffered serious injury including a fractured arm in a spill during the last meeting here, has been discharged from the hospital and will not be able to resume riding before next winter. The stewards today issued a ruling that no jockey will be permitted to ride a "contract mount" for any one, other than his contract employer. This means the usual j deposit must be made for the riding fee with the clerk of the scales prior to every race. Earl Major will Introduce a new apprentice rider at this meeting in John Davis, who has been galloping horses in his stable for over a year. The racing officials were all on the scene today making preparations for the opening tomorrow.
