EVIDENTLY began fast, was shuffled back and did not recover. RUSSELL, away in motion on the outside and quickly straightened up when attempting to bear over, made the early pace under restraint, swerved when shaken up in the stretch and, holding on stubbornly, stalled off PRINCE FOX. The latter, in close quarters shortly after the start and, under strong urging the final half mile, lost ground entering the stretch, but closed resolutely. EPIDEMIC, a strong factor throughout, stood a long drive gamely and. was strongest of all in the final stages. KUVERA suffered light interference and tired. "ESSENTIAL quit. The latter dropped out of it steadily for three-quarters, then rallied and closed with a rush on the outside.
