BUBOLA LOWERS OLD MARK MONTREAL, Que., Aug. 23 Running the fastest race at the route this season in Montreal, the consistent mare Bubola this afternoon smashed a sixteen-year-old record at Mount Royal track in winning the Imperial Theater Handicap, which featured. the card. The daughter of Bubbling Over ran the mile and a sixteenth in 1:43, clipping almost a full second from the record established by Gun Bearer in 1916. Bubola proved to be in her best form. Visionary and Golden Fairy battled it out in the early stages, carrying the field along at a fast clip, while Bubola raced behind them, rated under slight restraint. As the leaders showed signs of cracking under the pace after rounding the far turn, Bubola moved up strongly on the outside, took command readily, and though Finalist was sent after her. he had little chance of catching up. Straightened away in the stretch, Bubola moved forward stoutly, going to the mile in 1:38 and holding a lead of almost three lengths at the end. Finalist, after his futile bid for the lead, was easily next best, holding Visionary safe at the end.
