DEVONSHIRE PARK NOTES Carl Burns, one of George Palmers assistants, will officiate as starter on closing day at Devonshire. Mr. Palmer will depart Friday for Aurora, 111., to do the starting at the meeting at that point. Celeritas, Brave Alonzo and Nealon Kay pulled up lame in their respective races on Monday. "When Roy Waldron lost Zangwill out of the third race at Devonshire, Monday, it marked the fourth member of his stable lost via the claiming route since he shipped to Windsor. The other three were Winifred Ann, Just Imagine and Tryandagain. George Palmer received a wire from the Aurora Jockey Club, which read as follows: "Regardless of all rumors, Aurora opens September 3." Stanley Gillespie will leave Friday night for Syracuse to be on hand to take entries Saturday for the New York State Fair meeting, which opens Monday. Apprentice L. Humphries will depart for Chicago at the conclusion of the Devonshire Park meeting. S. S. Friedlein of Havana, Cuba, who is campaigning a string of thoroughbreds at Devonshire, was an arrival from Europe with his family and plans to stay for the remainder of the meeting. Jockey E. T. Moore stopped off at Devonshire en route to Wheeling, W. Va., where he plans to ride during the meeting at that point. Jockey G. Riley, contract rider for the H. C. Hatch stable, hit the rode Wednesday morning for the first time and took off six and one-half pounds.
