j TRACTABLE BEST IN CANADA Demonstrates His Superiority Over Dominion Juveniles in Grey Stakes Handicap at Woodbine Park. TORONTO, Ont., Sept. 29. Once again Tractable, the sterling juvenile from the Hastings Stable, was triumphant and accounted for the twenty-fourth renewal of the Grey Stakes Handicap. This is one of the feature events "of the fall term at the Ontario Jockey Club course and had its running over the one mile and seventy yards distance for a purse of ,200 added. Walter Jr., from the stable of George Sharpies, was second and Wooly West, in the purple and brown silks of J. E. Smallman, was third. The R. S. McLaughlin entry of Maetico and Royal Guard finished fourth and six, respectively. This was th : third consecutive victory for the locally-owned son of White Satin and Henrietta Wildair, and stamps him a3 the outstanding juvenile of the Canadian season. In the Grey Stakes he conceded weight to each of the other starters. After a delay of more than five minutes, due to the unruly behavior of Walter Jr. and Margie Lou, the field was away to a good start. Curran was alert at the start and went into instant command and soon drew clear of the others. Walter Jr. was next, while Rome Vennie was racing along at his throatlatch. Maetico had been shuffled back and was forced to come to the outside midway on the first turn. Tractable continued to race in front and Walter Jr. was clear of the others as they swung out of the back stretch. Tractable,-when he found himself out in the clear in the stretch, began to run lazily, but Curran, to let the big striding colt know that his task was not yet finished, roused him with the whip several times and came away afcain. He reached the finish with a length to spare. Walter Jr., while no match for the winner, had a big advantage over Wooly West, while the latter, in turn, was three lengths in front of Maetico. There was a chill to the air at Woodbine Thursday, making it decidedly uncomfortable if topcoats were left at home. Despite the coolness, it was another banner crowd that journeyed to the course. Court Butterfly proved easily best of the limit field of Canadian-bred maiden juveniles that matched strides in the opening dash. The Riverdale Stable entry of Match Girl and Whitby Lad were second and third, respectively. Whitby Lad and Tannia cut out the early running, while Foden had Court Butterfly right there on the outside. He disposed of Whitby Lad and Tannia and went to the front while there remained only a quarter mile to go. Once in front, the Zeppelin colt drew out with each stride, while Match Girl closed ground steadily and was along to take. the place from her sta-I blemate, Whitby Lad. Corsinax, coupled with Beckie B. as the Ridgewood Farm and R. H. New entry, loomed up threateningly on the outside straightening out in the stretch, but faltered under punishment in the final fur-loner.
