WASHINGTON HANDICAP j OUTSTANDING CONTEST LAUREL, Md., Oct. 26. Indications at this time are that the Washington Handicap, to be run Saturday, will be one of the outstanding races of the fall season. This:j is a race of one mile and a quarter, to which 5,000 is added, and the manner in which various of the candidates have been going along in their trials gives promise of both a large arid representative field.- This morning C. V. Whitneys Equipoise, which is the top weight -with all impost of 129 pounds, went along for. a handy mile and a quarter in 2:08, and it thoroughly satisfied both Fred Hopkins, his trainer and Tom Healy, first trainer for the stable,-who was on hand to see the son of Penchant perform. Twenty Crandj the greatest rival, of the Whitney champion, has been training well for the prize", and Plucky Play, which scored over Equipoise at Arlington had a useful trial this inorning that suggested his readiness. Others that are looked upon as almost certain starters are St. Brideaux, which had his final trial this afternoon in the mile and a furlong of the Tilghman Handicap. - White. Clover II. has shown a return to form, and Blenheim is ready. Tred Avon "is at her -best, and. Reveille Boy has been training nicely for the test. Andy Schut-tingers Pilate was never better, and his recent record-breaking performance makes it appear that he is in nicely under 110 pounds. There are, others of the promised company that make the Washington Handicap a race of greater sporting, promise than any that have been decided at the present meeting of the Maryland State Fair Association. !
