WASHINGTON HANDICAP WORKS LAUREL, Md., Oct. 26. Outstanding candidates for the 5,000 Washington Handicap, mile and one-quarter feature Saturday, received their big tests this morning, with C. V. Whitneys Equipoise turning in the best trial. Trainer Freddie Hopkins sent Equipoise a mile and one-quarter, which the four-year-old chestnut son of Pennant and Swinging accomplished in :23, :35, :48, 1:00, 1:13, 1:27, 1:40, 1:53 and 2:08. Norman Churchs; Plucky Play, which is figured to offer Equipoise the most contention in the Washington, went a mile and an eighth in :24, :36, :48, 1:01, 1:14, 1:27, i:46 and 1:55. Morton L. Schwartz Gusto, another eligible for the week-end feature, went a handy mile in 1:44. A mile in 1:43 was the move shown by the Foxcatcher Farms White Clover II. J. A. Bests Reveille Boy turned in a mile in 1:44.
