WALLS TO RIDE MR. KHAYYAM NEW YORK, N. Y., May 3.— Jockey "Pete" Walls has been engaged to ride the Catawba Stables Mr. Khayyam in the Kentucky Derby and will leave for Louisville in the next day or so. Walls was engaged by Mrs. James Austin and trainer Matt Brady late Saturday night, after the colts smashing victory in the Chesapeake. Walls had been engaged to ride Repaid, owned by the Quincy Stable in the classic but that colts withdrawal left him open to accept the new offer that had been left vacant by the suspension of Harry Richard. The latter/ had been engaged by trainer "Matt Brady a few days before the running of the Chesapeake. Walls was a last minute substitution on Lee Rosenbergs Kerry Patch when that two-year-old won the Futurity at Belmont Park last fall. Burke who had been engaged for Kerry Patch failed to report on time to accept the mount and Walls was engaged by trainer Notter to replace him.
