Cruz was driving the former, while Tred Avon was on the outside of the leaders. At the furlong post the gray mare made a desperate effort, but to no avail and in the final sixteenth she began to tire. Stepenfetchit continued to lead and, passing the winning mark, his advantage over Keep Out was a length. Tred Avon was beat- n a length and a half "for second place. The stake had a net value of ,100 to the winner. Showers fell during the afternoon and the races were run over a heavy track.
