EQUIPOISE ASSIGNED 139 LBS. But Will Be Absentee From Hawthorne Handicap Complete Weights for Feature. CICERO, 111., July 31. As an indication of the greater regard handicappers J. McLennan and Judge C. C. Riley have for C. V. Whitneys great champion, Equipoise, since his decisive victory in the Arlington Handicap, those handicappers assigned the marvelous five-year-old son of Pennant the crushing impost of 139 pounds for the ,000 added . Hawthorne Handicap, first of the important features to be run at the Stickney course and topping Saturdays program. Unfortunately, Equipoise will not be here to fill that engagement and with the Whitney star at Saratoga, the N. W. Church pair of Gallant Sir and Plucky Play probably will pack top weight of 124 pounds each in the mile and one-eighth test. Next in respect to assigned weight comes A. Bartelsteins Polydorus, which must pick up 114 pounds and D. A. Woods Indian Runner, double stakes winner at Arlington Park, is asked to shoulder 110 pounds. Thirty-four are eligible for the race which promises to attract a large field and furnish one of the most interesting contests of the meeting.
