wiNOOKAS AMERICAN DE- ! BUT NOT IMPRESSIVE t i SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., July 31. Wi-nookas victory over Hueu on the closing day at Tanforan, Saturday, was not impressive, the horse evidently being a little short. He is expected to show his wares in more convincing style in his next outs, probably at Seattle, or at Hawthorne, where he may possibly be shipped. His owners have not yet definitely decided whether to send, their sprinter North or East. True, Winooka was not seriously extended by Hueu, but the fact remains that the Australian horse was tired after the five furlongs race. Turfmen are of the opinion that he will need a race or two before being matched against the top notch handicap horses. The time of the race was 1:00, compared to the track record of 1:00 flat. Winooka led by a narrow margin to midway of the stretch, and then drew away to win by a length and a half.
