PERSICEE GRADUATES J E Widener Colors Again Prom ¬ inent at Churchill Downs Wayne Wright Pilots Philadelphia Owned Winner and One Other for Double Victory LOUISVILLE Ky May 2 For the second time in as many days Joseph E Wideners red and white colors triumphed in one of the most important events of the Churchill Downs racing when his homebred Persickle a threeyearold daughter of Sickle and Per sica gained her initial victory in the Blos ¬ som Time Purse at that track today This was a race of six furlongs engaging eleven nonwinner threeyearolds or older and alr though the winner was away well in a ragged start the first for starter William Hamilton who is doing great work her vic ¬ tory was decisive three lengths intervening between her and the runnerup Pharamaid at the end Nightingale took third money with Play Hooky next nextDark Dark Devil and Cold Water racing for Mrs Silas B Mason and John Marsch re ¬ spectively were the last under way both beginning so slowly as to have little chance chanceWayne Wayne Wright had the black or gray win ¬ ner in front a few strides after the start and though restrained she steadily drew away to lead by almost two lengths at the end of the first quarter Approaching the stretch where Nightingale continued to hold second by a small margin over Phara ¬ maid the winner added to her advantage and the big margin was retained to the close In the final furlong Pharamaid over ¬ whelmed badlyThe Nightingale which tired badly The Widener filly favorite at 3 to 2 was Wrights second winner It was her first appearance of the season and like Peace Chance yesterdays Widener winner was saddled by Peter Coyne CoyneWayne Wayne Wright added another winner to his impressive score for the year when he Continued on twentysixth page PERSICKLE GRADUATES Continued from first page hustled J B Partridges Pat C to victory in the threequarters claiming number for older platers that opened the racing The gelding won decisively with Rally Round second and Balderdash third thirdWright Wright had the winner in front after threeeighths and maintaining a good brand of speed through the stretch drove on to win by three lengths Rally Round which was in the center of the track throughout was second by a half length over the strong closing Balderdash BalderdashThe The Four Oaks Stock Farms Sister Zbe with Alcee Richard in the saddle and fav ¬ orite finished in front of seven other plater sprinters in the second race a split of the first Brought from behind the pace she won by a length with Counselor Crane sec ¬ ond and the second choice Valdosta next in the field of eight The behavior of Polas Flag while at the post delayed the start six minutes minutesMaking Making her first start of the year Mrs K Ramseys Terrain was an easy winner of the third race The highly regarded Broadcaster was second and Dusky Dame third thirdEight Eight started over the six furlongs and after Dusky Dame and Broadcaster had shown the way to the final furlong the win ¬ ner came down on the outside to have a length and a half advantage at the finish
