CHASE ME UNDEFEATED Registers His Seventh Straight Vic ¬ tory Before Big Crowd at Pimlico Carries 120 Pounds to Beat Chat moss Teralice Larranaga and Others Crazy Jane Wins BALTIMORE Md May 2 Ten thousand racing enthusiasts mostly loyal Maryland ers gathered at Pimlico this afternoon to see Mrs John Bosleys Chase Me hero of last falls racing in Maryland run his sev ¬ enth race and had the satisfaction of seeing him score his seventh straight victory How ¬ ever the shapely brown son of Purchase and Mayanel which many smart racing folk have picked as a formidable challenger to the continued championship pretentions of the lordly Equipoise did not score with the wild abandon that characterized his six winning races of last fall over the Havre de Grace Laurel Pimlico and Bowie courses He was under pressure to beat the improved Chatmoss three parts of a length and he was blowing hard when Earl Porter brought him back to the scales after pulling up to take a mild ovation and his time for one mile and seventy yards which was the dis ¬ tance of the Strathmore a 1000 handicap in which he defeated Teralice and Larranga along with Chatmoss was 143 which was one and onefifth of a second behind the Pimlico track record set a dozen years ago by Shuffle Along and equalled but recently by Tred Avon On this performance he cannot be said to look a good thing to beat Equipoise at a difference of ten pounds in the Dixie Handicap revival a dash of Continued on twentysixth page CHASE ME UNDEFEATED Continued from first page one mile and threesixteenths set for this coming Saturday SaturdayEquipoises Equipoises weight in the Dixie will be 130 pounds his 120 However it is just possible that Chase Me needed todays race He was carrying plenty of flesh this afternoon con ¬ siderably more than he seemed to have last fall fallChase Chase Me packed 120 pounds this after ¬ noon Chatmpss 107 Teralice 106 and Lar ranaga 110 The Bosley starter was favorite at 1 to 2 Chatmoss ruling second choice Last fall Chase Me did his racing from be ¬ hind winning by compelling home stretch rushes Today Porter obviously under orders took him to the front in the first turn He was never headed Chatmoss gal ¬ loped on his quarters around the first turn down the back stretch and into the far turn Threeeighths of a mile out Porter gave Chase Me his head and the son of Purchase quickly opened a twolength gap But he did not hold it Chatmoss regained ground steadily in the run through the home stretch and was going as strongly as Chase Me was at the finish Moreover Teralice was only half a length back of Chatmoss and Lar ranaga finished noseand tail with Teralice The weather was cool and cloudy the going fast fastThe The freakishly marked but otherwise good looking and overdue Rhadamanthus an ¬ other C V Whitney stable toiler and a near favorite came across in the opening dash which was for maiden threeyearolds and over The eight competing colts and geldings packed 110 pounds each the single filly S W Labrots Leonie 105 Possibly there was a little more money for the Sage Stables Gitapp a son of Sun Pal and Drive which Captain Phil Walker is train ¬ ing than there was for the Whitney con ¬ testant But Gitapp which had looked good at Havre de Grace was a failure He couldnt raise a gallop Rhadamanthus dominated from the start startWorkman Workman continued his winning way in the second when he rode Justa Jones a brown gelding by Broadway Jones Regency to victory over eleven other twoyearolds in the second a sprint of four and a half furlongs under claiming conditions Justa Jones was a mild favorite with Ogle next in demand and after Ogle Nervy Nella Nervy Nella failed to race to the promise of her best Havre de Grace form but Justa Jones raced out of the bunch almost imme ¬ diately after they left the stalls and assumed a commanding lead He had about a length of daylight to spare as he finished in 55 Ogle beat Sun Teaparty for the place The Justa Farm Stable owns Justa Jones which is homebred
