LOWERS AURORA TIME RECORD Ridgeview Gallops One Mile and Sev ¬ enty Yards in 141 Favorites Fare Well at Exposition Park Navanod Stumbles at Start of ofFeature Feature Race AURORA 111 May 15 J D Mikels Ridgeview the improved daughter of Prince of Umbria chalked up another victory when she took honors in the Kaneville Handicap the best race of the day which engaged five of the outstanding distance performers on the grounds for a contest over one mile and seventy yards Under an impost of 112 pounds the winner raced the distance in record time when she negotiated the course in 1411 taking twofifths off the former mark established by Jack Haskell in 1929 Five lengths back of the winner was Stuy vesant Peabodys Technocracy which downed the Brentwood Farms Navanod by half a length to take second honors and lead home Loggia and Our Justice which completed the field of five fiveNavanod Navanod one of the favorites was unfor ¬ tunate at the start when he stumbled and was off a good distance back of the others Many of the spectators made caustic re ¬ marks about Arnold but he was in no way responsible for the accident accidentAs As was expected Loggia was sent into a long lead but Technocracy followed her under restraint while she set the early pace The winner raced in third place and was go ¬ ing easily Navanod which began in a tangle was in fourth place while Our Jus ¬ tice was next Loggia continued to set the pace to the stretch and it was at this point that Arcaro sent the winner up with a spurt and she made short work of Loggia then drew away fast to her decisive victory After giving way to the winner Loggia also gave way to Technocracy and then to Navanod which finished gamely gamelyThe The weather was ideal for the sport and another large crowd was out to in good alignment and Tilden lost no time sending the victor to the front Once in the coveted position Felaxe sped along under mild re ¬ straint but after leaving the half mile post he increased his margin to five lengths Tilden took no chances and kept the winner going at full speed to make victory certain Peace Lady offered the strongest conten ¬ tion after the first half mile but despite the strong riding of Frankie Hernandez the Herendeen mare could not keep pace with her successful rival rivalThe The first race resulted formfully when F J Grands Justice B under a powerful ride by apprentice W Lowe nosed out Frank Wrights Aurica in one of the most thrilling and closest finishes of the meeting So close was the finish that only the judges were in position to place them accurately Birthday Gift which set a fast pace to the final eighth was third leading home four others that runningThe never figured seriously in the running The second race was productive of an ¬ other close finish when Curb Bit graduated from the maiden class downing eleven oth ¬ ers that contested over the threequarters course Donna Bettina raced to second place while Dusty Lane withstood the fast closing Lady La Marne to earn third award awardAuto Auto Cautery which delayed the start raced to a clear lead early and was forced along by Deets Campfire while Donna Bet ¬ tina showed the way to the others The trio dominated the running to the final eighth where Tilden brought the winner up with a rush and after a bitter struggle with Donna Bettina was gradually increasing his mar gin as they flashed by the wire Ruffday was caught in close quarters leaving the back stretch and P Keester his rider was unseated but escaped with a slight shaking up upThere There was a long delay at the post in the third race when the victorious Supercharge which was making her first start in over a year acted so badly that starter Wingfield had to place her on the outside Taking a long lead when the field was dispatched Supercharge sped along without being threatened and it was not until she reached the final eighth that her laurels were in jeopardy and it was the improved Droit that raced up from a good distance back to offer stubborn contention and while she cut down the margin that separated them the winner sped past the line a scant length to the good Droit was subjected to strong punishment to withstand Irfaneh which got up to take third honors Bag Smasher the favorite raced in close quarters most of the way but did make an appreciable gain when he found racing room roomArcaro Arcaro rode his second winner when he brought Clarence E Davisons Captain Red to the line of finish in front in the sixth race winning by one length with Captain Joy second a nose in advance of Polyfon The winner had the benefit of a poor ride by apprentice O Harbort who lost much ground on Polyfon which virtually cost the Mikel horse the race raceFire Fire Star set the early pace when he raced into a clear lead soon after the start but Arcaro sent Captain Red right up into con ¬ tention and elected to take the inside while indulging Fire Star in the pacemaking Redins raced in third place for the first quarter but Polyfon displaced him as they made the turn and as they approached the stretch head Harbort allowed his mount to make a wide turn He recovered his loss of ground quickly and was back on even terms with the leaders but his exertions of swerv ¬ ing throughout took much out of him and he was unable to take that much the worst of it and win
