READY FOR DETROIT OPENING Track and Buildings Put in Spick and Span Condition Roy Dicherson Holding Schooling Sessions SessionsDaily Daily at Bahr Gate Horses Arriving Arrivingby by Vans and Trains TrainsDETROIT DETROIT Mich May 15 With numer ¬ ous details of painters carpenters and other workmen whipping the plant into shape for the opening of the Detroit Racing Asso ¬ ciation spring meeting Thursday there re ¬ mains little to be done in other departments to complete the preliminary work necessary for the inaugural program programThe The Fair Grounds course took on a racing atmosphere today and while the racing sec ¬ retarys office was the busiest place on the grounds Judge Joseph Murphy director of racing Charles McLennan racing secretary and their corps of assistants are well ad ¬ vanced with their premeeting work In ad ¬ dition to compiling nominations for the De ¬ troit Derby and Wolverine Handicap the latter feature of the first Saturday program which was closed Monday Mr McLennan was busy receiving entries for the Inaugural Handicap the main attraction of the open ¬ ing days card cardFrom From all indications the Inaugural Handi ¬ cap which carries a 1500 purse and will be decided over six furlongs will bring to ¬ gether an evenly matched field Although the Inaugural surpasses the DetroitLeland Purse in monetary value the latter race for threeyearolds over one mile and a sixteenth is attracting considerable attention Several of the dark horses in the Derby field will be under colors in this race and their per ¬ formances will probably decide whether they will be transferred on for that important fixture fixtureJudge Judge Murphy stated this morning that he had turned back several complimentary entries for the Derby He further stated that it always has been his policy to dis ¬ courage complimentary entries and for this Continued on twentyfirst page READY FOR DETROIT OPENING Continued from first page reason always had a late closing date for all stakes stakesAll All during the day vans and express cars unloaded horses and by the time for the opening Thursday virtually all of the avail ¬ able stabling accommodations will be taken There will be however accommodations available for several leading stables includ ¬ ing that of Mrs Isabel Dodge Sloanes Brookmeade Stable which ships here at the close of the Belmont meeting meetingAmong Among the leading establishments to reach here today were Mrs F A Carreaud Harold Massey John E Hughes L Hay ¬ maker R P Watts L Lycan and R Pen ¬ ning They came from Pimlico while three cars transferred the Lone Star Stable and those of Mrs Floyd West S Hesseltine Wil ¬ liam Emmerson J Bell H H Brown R L Rogers Dave Hum Miss L M Pike Mrs C Howard C A Marone and L Sulma SulmaEight Eight horses which will carry the Nor ¬ man W Church colors arrived from Louis ¬ ville this morning while Hal Price Headley and W J Hirsch wired that their stables were leaving that point for here tonight Gallant Sir the twotime Agua Caliente Han ¬ dicap winner and Plucky Play the giant killer are the leaders of the Church string which also included four twoyearold sons and daughters of Toro Trainer E L Fitz ¬ gerald supervised the unloading of the horses and stated that he is giving Riskulus a good rest but hoped to have him under colors for the Derby DerbyTime Time Supply Mrs Carreauds Derby hope ¬ ful headed her stable which included thir ¬ teen others Silent Shot which will carry the John E Hughes colors in the Wolverine Handicap headed the eight others of that establishment establishmentStarter Starter Roy Dickerspn held a busy session at the barrier more than J9K horses a ma ¬ jority of which were twoyearolds visit ¬ ing the Bahr gate
