WAR PLANE SHOWS GAMENESS Hangs on Well to Outstay Dark Mis ¬ sion for Feature Purse at Pop ¬ ular Dufferin Park TORONTO Ont June 18 The best field of the afternoon at Dufferin Park went postward in the fifth offering This brought out the small field of half a dozen of the better grade platers Mrs R T Flippen furnished the winner in the fiveyearold American Flag gelding War Plane Three quarters of a length in the wake of the winner at the end came Lloyd Gentrys Dark Mission and the locallyowned Chat Eagle made up considerable ground to take third Bushman was fourth and Butter Beans led home the only remaining starter Barry BarryRain Rain fell throughout the afternoon mak ¬ ing the track heavy Despite the rain a re ¬ markably large throng was out to enjoy the sport sportIn In the feature attraction little time was lost at the post War Plane beginning out ¬ side the stalls was rushed clear in the run to the first turn The American Flag geld ¬ ing went wide on the back stretch but Wat ¬ son soon straightened him out and was still clear Dark Mission was chasing the Flippen fiveyearold closest and Bushman had the others headed headedWar War Plane increased his advantage but when showing signs of loafing was roused with the whip and drew away again againBushman Bushman did not hold his prominent po ¬ sition long and Chat Eagle moved up into third place They were all driving back of the winner a quartermile from home but War Plane was doing his best and while in the run through the stretch Dark Mis ¬ sion cut down the margin that separated him from the leader it was not enough and he was forced to accept second place Chat Eagle had little trouble in taking the minor portion and had a fourlength margin over Bushman for his share of the prize A driving rain descended immediately after the running of the feature that drove the crowd to cover and turned the track into a sea of slop
