FOURTH VICTORY FOR OCCULT Speedy Goldblatt Racer Again in Front in Latonia Race Crowd Up to Usual Standard Despite Rain Rainand and Muddy Track Dublin Taylor Taylorin in Usual Form LATONIA Ky June 18 Mose Goldblatts consistent Occult scored her fourth victory of the meeting when she captured the Madi ¬ son Road Purse a sprint of six furlongs feature of Mondays card at Latonia Show ¬ ing an aptitude for running In the sloppy going as well as on a fast track the three yearold daughter of Dis Done and Bonnie Witch beat five others over the threequar ¬ ters in the good time of 114 114Second Second to complete the journey and only threequarters of a length behind the win ¬ ner was the Glen Helen Studs I Pass while W E Hupps Judge Judy was third four lengths behind I Pass and a half length in advance of Lady Pal PalI I Pass was first to show in front but he was displaced by Occult after the first quar ¬ ter and the latter led the rest of the way After passing I Pass Occult opened up a lead of a length and a half but near the finish I Pass came on again and was getting to the winner at the judges stand Judge Judy was slow to get into his best stride and it was only in the last seventy yards that he was able to get into the pic ¬ ture He overtook Lady Pal which showed some early speed Witches Night also dis ¬ played some early foot though she quit badly in the stretch Essqntial showed noth ¬ ing ingOccult Occult ridden by D Taylor was the first fourtime winner of the meeting She ruled a favorite bettingOvernight in the betting Overnight rains continued until noon today and left the track a quagmire The crowd however was up to the usual stand ¬ ard for a Monday MondayRudie Rudie Varwigs Our Sammy which brought a fancy figure as a yearling but which later proved a disappointment came into his own in the fifth race which was the secondary feature on the days program This threeyearold gelding raced home win ¬ ner by a head beating the highly regarded Cherry Time Rolanda Southland Duke and I Prevail PrevailWhile While a head separated the first two to finish a still closer fight prevailed for third money Rolanda Southland Duke and I Prevail driving down in a blanket finish finishOur Our Sammy a maiden was cleverly rated back of the pace set by Cherry Time and forced by Rolanda to the stretch where jockey R Finnerty began his drive The winner just got up in the final strides to take the purse Cherry Times margin over Rolanda lengthsThe at the finish was three lengths The first race a dash for twoyearold maiden fillies saw W F Axtons Ruths Hope scamper to an easy victory over a band of six others Hustled into an early lead the daughter of Monks Way was never threatened first having three lengths advan ¬ tage over Jane Rachel which was closest to the winner all the way Entering the home stretch the Axton filly was five lengths ahead of her nearest rival and as she passed the judges stand her rider S Vail had a snug hold on her Scarp the favorite placeThere ran an even race in third place There was considerable delay at the start chiefly because of the fractiousness of Amazement which incidentally ran out at the head of the gelding could do no better than finish second to C H Beals Prince Plato The latter which seemed at home in the going led all the way and won by a length while Dewhurst was third thirdPrince Prince Plato was closely accompanied by Dewhurst for the first half mile but turning for the home stretch he drew out Then Dewhurst began to tire Twill moving up to displace him in second place The others in the field of eight were well strung out at the finish and with the possible exception of Knockaway none of them had any ex ¬ cuses Knockaway was unprepared when the start came cameThe The first public choice to get down in front was the Devereaux Bros Brustigert which accounted for the third event in easy fash ¬ ion Brustigert had to be pounds the best to win for he was taken back nearly to last place after the break and did not begin to make his run until the field reached the turn There he gained ground next to the rail was second shortly after entering the stretch and then went on to win by a length and a half halfWhy Why Not which was second also had to come from far back to get into the money Barbara Carom was third After racing Miss Curtice into submission Barbara Carom opened a fourlength lead on her rivals but could not withstand the final rush of Brusti ¬ gert and Why Not NotW W F Axtons stable complted a double when Paradisical captured the fourth which engaged a half dozen twoyearold over five and a half furlongs After breaking first Paradisical was taken off the pace to permit Cynwyd to take command and they raced in this order to the stretch where the Axton filly moved to the front and stood a hard drive to win by a half length Third money went to Too Busy which moved into that position when Master Beau began to falter Paradisical which was scoring her second straight victory was ably handled by S Vail who also rode Ruths Hope to victory for the Axton stable in the first ragej
