NEW YORK RACING POPULAR Long Island Railroad Reports 100 100Per Per Cent Increase in Number of People Carried This Year NEW YORK N Yi June 18 The grow ¬ ing popularity of horse racing in New York Js attested by statistics jiist compiled by the passenger traffic department of the Long Island railroad which show an increase of more than 100 per cent inihe number of people carried on special trains to and from the Jamaica arid Belmont Park race tracks during the spring meetings meetingsDuring During the twentyone days of this years spring meeting at Jamaica the railroad car ¬ ried 69981 racing patrons an increase of 129 per cent over last year when 30548 passen ¬ gers used Long Island trains during the eighteen days of racing at Jamaica JamaicaThe The Belmont Park meeting embraced twentytwo days In that period the race track specials carried 86369 passengers This was 50565 or 141 per cent greater than the number of train riders during the sev ¬ enteen racing days at the same track in the spring of 1933
