Rain the first of any consequence started falling in this vicinity this morning and although it was a welcome relief for the Wayne County farmers it worked havoc with one of the best weekday programs arranged here Luckily the terrific downpour did not strike until after the regular time for withdrawals and it was not necessary to use the carded substitute but it caused a riddling of the program and with the exception of the first and second races where large fields were named overnight the five other events brought out only a small number of con ¬ testants testantsThe The Standish Purse that served as the fourth and supporting attraction was pro ¬ ductive of another close finish when Leo J Marks Marooned lasted to beat C V Whit ¬ neys Salaam by a nose for his first victory of the year directed the Fair Fields filly and although he was forced to lose ground in bettering her position he appeared to know that the Kilmer miss was equal to the task Money Getter and the winner had things all their own way for threequarters but Mattioli was forced to send the filly to the outside in subduing the pacemaker After reaching the lead she soon disposed of Money Getter while Thataway which was blocked entering the back stretch also was forced to go to the outside and he was much the best of Slipper King who beat the tiring Money Getter threequarters of a length for the minor award awardSeven Seven started in the six furlongs dash and while De Valera was the first in motion Allan Tipton lost little time in sending the winner into the lead Par Value and Con ¬ stant Wife made vain efforts at displacing the leader but after a half mile Par Value retired as Salaam moved up on the outside Disposing of Par Value Salaam supplanted Constant Wife in the final furlong and was gradually wearing the winner down at the end Over the sloppy track Marooned a 11 to 10 choice ran the distance in 114 De Valera second choice tired after holding fourth position for fiveeighths fiveeighthsAT AT HOME IN GOING GOINGThe The aged Mild now in her seventh year showed a decided preference for the muddy going when she accounted for the mile sixth race in easy fashion over the improved My Counsellor Primute and four others that started startedThe The winner took command soon after the start and although My Counsellor was al ¬ ways the best of the others the winner held on gamely to have a length to spare at the finish finishA A nose decided the five furlongs first race when Jay Weils Red Rod got up to beat Julia Grant Third went to Brindle which outlasted the well regarded La Cherie a nose for the minor award While the maiden son of Transmute and Golden Rod which Weil purchased several days ago was forced to come around his opponents Julia Grant raced into a good lead in the opening first forty yards He drew away to a commanding lead but Capitalist was always the best of the others and when the leaders began to tire he forged to the front with C Hooper having him under good handling at the end endSilvio Silvio Coucci the Bronx lad who jumped into the riding picture through his superb handling of Gusto gave a great exhibition of his ability when he brought the fash ¬ ionably bred and stanchly supported Pano rama to a head triumph in the running of the third race at a mile which engaged six other older maidens At the end of the eight furlongs he had the daughter of Supremus and Chacolet before Walkalong which beat Wild Reigh three lengths for the second award Coucci was content to allow the Hal Price Headley filly to follow in the wake of the pacemaking Walkalong until the final quarter From there on he called on her and responding to the best efforts of the Italian she gradually wore the leader down
