RIOT AT ALAMO DOWNS TRACK Mistake in Posting of Odds on Stat craft fn Sixth Race Results in Trouble SAN ANTONIO Texas May 11 After the running of the sixth race in which State craft was the winner and the win price posted on the board showed only 1080 while the approximate odds board showed the horse 40 to 1 a mistake made by the mutuel department the crowd assembled in the clubhouse surrounded the judges stand and walked on the race track and refused to allow the horses to come on the track for the seventh race Coming out of the gap to the track for the seventh race the crowd refused to allow the horses on the track and the animals were promptly returned to the paddock paddockBilly Billy Mayfield state inspector for the Texas racing cornmission at Alamo Downs blamed the mistake of the odds of State ¬ craft to a transposition of odds on State ¬ craft and Starkist in post positions seven and eight respectively on the odds board boardIn In flashing the odds to the board they placed the four to one odds opposite Star kists name when he should have been 40 to 1 and placed 40 to 1 against Statecraft when his closing odds should have read 4 to 1 It was an unfortunate but perfectly honest mistake Representatvies of the Texas racing commission are ever on the alert for the protection of the public and they can be assured that the mistake was not fraud ¬ ulent but merely the result of this error
