BURNING UP ALAMO WINNER Aged Son of Black Toney Accounts Accountsfor for Gunter Hotel Purse Days DaysFeature Feature Contest SAN ANTONIO Texas May 11 Burning Up G E Ewins sevenyearold son of Black Toney Beach Talk making his first start of the local meeting was an easy winner of the Gunter Hotel Purse feature race on the program this afternoon by decisively de ¬ feating Whisking from the J H Tate sta ¬ ble by two lengths with Back Fence sport ing the silks of the locallyowned Six Bar Stable third three lengths in the rear of Whisking Home Work was fourth followed by Royal Pride Brilliant Duke and Lugen Luggage coupled with the winner winnerThe The winner making his ninth start of the year accounted for his first winning race in 1935 in his success today with much credit due the jockey N Merritt who rode the victor After being outrun for the first half mile Merritt remained nearest the rail in the better going while Back Fence Royjft Pride and Whisking were setting the early pace paceEntering Entering the stretch the field swung very wide with Whisking going farthest out in swinging to the straightaway While his op 3 pnents were losing much ground Merritt remained near the rail with the Bradley bred gelding and before reaching the eighth post was leading by more than two lengths Continuing to hold his rail position in the final sixteenth the winner had considerable left to stall off the late rush of Whisking which came again againGood Good racing weather brought out the larg ¬ est crowd of the meeting for the eightrace program which was decided over a slow dryingout strip left soft from the drenching rains of Thursday night The throng esti ¬ mated at more than 10000 sweltered during the early part of the program from the wartn sun and crowded conditions
