Six Lengths Before a Tremendous Tremendousand and Notable Crowd BALTIMORE Md May 11 Omaha gallant son of a gallant sire the redoubtable Gallant Fox easily crowned his Kentucky Derby triumph with a cantering victory in the fortyfifth Preakness Stakes before the largest crowd in Maryland racing history at the old Hilltop course of the Maryland Jockey Club here this afternoon As the long legged son of Gallant Fox and Flambino swept past the judges at the end of the mile and threesixteenths he was six lengths in front of Walter M Jeffords Firethorn with the Brookmeade Stable s Psychic Bid a like distance back of the place in third position Then followed in order Maemere Farms Mantagna Mrs W M Jeffords Common ¬ wealth Mrs C S Bromleys Brannon Calu ¬ mets Nellie Flag and E R Bradleys Box thorn thornBut But there was only one horse today That was Omaha that the huge crowd came to honor and the Bullet of Belair displayed his speed and quality in regal manner He earned for his owner William Woodward chairman of The Jockey Club the prize of 25325 which raised his total earnings in two years of campaigning to 70450 The victor was an oddson favorite in the field He romped over the mile and three sixteenths in the excellent time of 15873 twofifths of a second slower than the track record and onefifth slower than the Preak ¬ ness record established by High Quest in i winning last
