program at the Fox Valley Jockey Clubs course The fouryearold daughter of Happy Argb and Rough Sea coupled with Joe Flores as the L Beyda entry ran the mile and seventy yards in 142 to defeat W Hinphys Dark Woman by two lengths Joe Flores was a similar distance back in third position and Herowin was fourth among the ten starters The time missed the track record by fourfifths of a second secondThe The days program brought out a crowd that has been exceeded only on Derby Day last year since the track has been under the control of Joseph Cattarinich and R S Eddy Jr Every seat in the grandstand was occupied and the aisles were jammed with people when the feature attraction was staged stagedA A thrilling race was presented in the headliner with L Machado bringing up Easy Sailing in the final three furlongs to gain the victory The Beyda filly came I through on the inside to wrest the lead from Dark Woman at the furlong pole the latter having disposed of Band Wagon just a short time before i From a good start Easy Sailing was rated along in the middle of the field as the horses went around the first turn Band Wagon was rushed into a long lead with Rush Along and Dark Woman in closest pursuit Rush Along dropped back in the run down the back stretch and Joe Flores moved into third position while Eas Sailing was much farther away awayAs As the field swept around the second turn Continued on thirtysecond page AURORAS BIG CROWD Continued from first page Band Wagon shortened his stride with the result that Dark Woman gained on him The former turned into the stretch with a half length advantage but this was soon over ¬ come by Dark Woman In the meantime Easy Sailing had moved up fast and was at the heels of the leaders turning into the home straightaway straightawayDark Dark Woman went on by the tiring Band Wagon but she was well out from the rail and Machado was able to send Easy Sailing up on the inside to take the lead Under steady handling the Happy Argo filly stead ¬ ily drew away until she was well clear of Dark Woman which had to be ridden out to gain the place by two lengths over Joe Flores FloresHerowin Herowin was fourth by making a belated run through the stretch The entry of Band Wagon and Noahs Pride was slightly fa ¬ vored over the winning pair Much interest was attached to the performance of Joseph J G Althoughlightly regarded in the wa ¬ gering the large crowd watched his effort closely He was knocked back right after the stait and was far back of his field going down the back stretch His light rider was unable to keep him straight and he bore out badly on the second turn only to show a good rush through the stretch to finish next to last lastIn In one of the closest finishes of the meet ¬ ing the Chicagoowned King Pin obtained a nose decision over Loyal Louie after a drive which lasted throughout the final threesixteenths of the one mile and one eighth race In third place three lengths farther back came Nisia to garner the third award under a poor ride Shirley May another which was a victim of timid riding finished in fourth place placeThe The veteran Nick Burger got the winner away in full stride and sent him to the front with a rush Once settled into his full stride JBurger took him in hand while he set a good pace Continuing gamely after attaining a commanding lead he sped along without any threat until they straightened out in the stretch Then Loyal L6uie which forged to a more prominent position offered strong contention and the pair fought it out in dingdong style with King Pin just last ¬ ing Nisia virtually raced without any as ¬ sistance throughout the entire route and with stronger handling would have given the first two a much stronger argument argumentThe The green and white colors of Joseph Cat tarinich figured in another victory when Outremont a strapping son of Lee O Cotner and Ruby Mine won decisively over Amqui Natalie Alice and six others which raced four and onehalf furlongs in the introduc ¬ tory number numberThe The winner gained his conquest in an impressive manner and in doing so carried 118 pounds and established a new track record clipping onefifth of a second off the old mark which was established by Peggy May 5 1928 Amqui from the sta ¬ ble of Jewell Brothers displayed good early speed which enabled her to set the pace for a good part of the distance but when the winner moved up to her with a rush she was unable to keep pace and readily gave way While no match for the winner Amqui took her award easily easilyMaiden Maiden threeyearolds and older met in the second race This contest resulted in a win and graduation for White Smiths Technocrat which came right back with a repetition of his last race Jockey J Dobson was up on the winner and his superior horsemenship proved an important factor in the result when he clearly outrode appren ¬ tice C Stevenson to get his mount home by the slight margin of a head Buddys Choice was the victim of the prowess of the winner and while he was unsuccessful his per ¬ formance was a game one Nonpartisan strongly favored to win accounted for the third award while the heavily backed Viper and Ad Astra finished far in the wake of the successful trio trioAfter After several unsuccessful attempts Ran do Thriffleys Whitharral finally broke into the charmed circle of winners when he eked out a nose decision in the third race which engaged a limit field of sprinters for a test of threequarters Second in the field of twelve was Pollys Folly which gave the admirers of the winner some exciting mo ¬ ments in the final stages when she finished with such belated speed that she just missed getting up Judge Urban was third in this and his performance was a good one for he came from a good distance back to be among the successful trio when they fin ¬ ished the engagement engagementSuncircle Suncircle Trail from a good beginning rushed to the front and set the pace for half the distance but when the real test came she failed to keep up with her stronger rivals which came from behind and staged the stirring finish which ensued after pass ¬ ing the final eighth eighthA A band of the ordinary type sprinters made the contest for the fourth race which resulted in an easy win for the Old Gold Stables Service Man which led almost frdm the start to win easing up by two and one half lengths Servant Pride and Persuader among the long shots finished in second and third places respectively respectivelyThe The winner possessed good speed for this engagement and his ability to race the first quarter in 23 and the half mile in 47Vs gained a decisive lead which he easily main ¬ tained to the end Servant Pride made a valiant attempt to force the winner and while he managed to hold his position safe he was in no way a menace to the victor The followers of Wigrose and Forceful suf ¬ fered keen disappointment when their choices not only failed to race to expecta ¬ tions but never reached contention
