The sport was con ¬ ducted over a fast track and saw favorites dominating in the majority of the races accounting for four of the first six contests contestsThrough Through the actions of Flint Shot the start of the Newport was delayed four and onehalf minutes When the start came he was in motion which enabled him to take command and he went along in front under mild reserve and Visigoth was the only one of the four other contestants to offer con ¬ tention worthy of mention As they ap ¬ proached the stretch Kern sent Visigoth up with a rush and came to the final eighth head and head with the winner A gruel ¬ ling battle ensued and it was nip and tuck all through the final eighth but the winner proved too strong for his rival Vitamin B raced in third place throughout He never seriously threatened the first two but was best of the other pair throughout the race raceThe The black and gold colors of the Chappel Bros Rockford 111 owners and breeders furnished another winner when Monks Gold carried them to her second victory in as many starts in the opening race The win ¬ ner received a strong ride by the veteran Mack Garner and managed to nose out J W Parrishs Tcnace which might have been best having to take much the worst of it from an outside position which occasioned a good loss of ground while reaching con ¬ tention Then her racing rather wide at the stretch head was another retarding factor Third went to Snow Fairy a firsttime starter from the barn of J B Respess and the manner in which the money poured into the machines suggested she was much bet ¬ ter than best stride for an eighth of the opening quarter but once under full speed made short work of the leading Flighlette After taking command the Respess filly was never seriously threatened winning in hand by one and onehalf lengths The struggle for second and third money was more ex ¬ citing when the successful ones came to the end in close formation with Grenadine get ¬ ting up in the final strides to nose out Flighlette The latter downed Chortle by a head for the third award awardTrainer Trainer Tommy Murray saddled another winner when he sent Woodway postward in the third race which brought out a limit field of juveniles for a test of fiveeighths This culminated in another close finish when the first two came to the end so closely aligned that only the judges were in posi ¬ tion to decide the winner Good Soldier a first time starter representing J B Resptess closed in second place and while he was unable to meet the demands of the winner had no difficulty leading home Ecentric which finished third Field Day was a dis ¬ appointment in this when after breaking well failed to keep up under strong riding ridingThe The fourth race nearly resulted in a de ¬ cided upset when G V Barnes heavily played Babeson just managed to outlast the suddenly improved Score which races for O H Reed The winning margin was a nose The Reed racer came out of his coma to give the form players their greatest scare of the afternoon and much to the disgust of those who had wagered on him in his re ¬ cent starts when he finished up the track Third went to Yankee Waters which came from a good distance back to account for his portion of the purse The winner away in motion took command at once and while unable to attain a lead of any consequence managed to hold his position without exer ¬ tion until the final stages It was there that Score charged on him and forced him to extremes to obtain the decision decisionMaidens Maidens and winners of one race met in the Westwood Purse fifth on the program and it resulted in a hollow victory for the temperamental Bobbys Son which per ¬ formed in the colors of W E Hupp The winner acted so rank at the post that the starter was compelled to place him outside the stall gate from where he began well He soon attained a long lead and was never in danger winning by six lengths Honor Her raced to second place while third went to the rank outsider Barvita making her first start Black Warwick was well thought of in this but after racing in close at ¬ tendance for half a mile gave way badly Ping was another that failed to keep up after displaying good early speed
